• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Arno, on the SAMM support forum you said "In the last weeks I have also added support for aircraft mdl files to ModelConverterX. FS2002 and FS2004 aircraft files work most of the time now and I am still working on the older aircraft formats."

How about some more information on how to use this feature? I imported one of the default planes and it displayed in MCX, but I wasn't sure where I should export it to.

Hi,

If you use the development release it should read many aircraft MDL files. Although sometimes parts are still missing.

After you have imported it to ModelConverterX it is your choice how to export it again. You can export to FSX MDL or FS2004 scenery MDL, depending on the project you are working on.

There is also an animation manager where you can remove the animations. So you can freeze all animations at a certain keyframe. This prevents gears from moving, etc. At the moment it is one keyframe for all animations, it is on the todo list to define the right frame for each type of animation.

Hope this helps you a bit,

Thanks, Arno. Does the plane being converted need to be left in its original location, or can we move it to a different folder. If we can move it, what files are needed besides the mdl and the textures?

Hi,

After you export it as a scenery mdl only that mdl and the textures are needed. The other aircraft files are not used anymore.

Thanks, Arno. I tried converting one of the default Cessnas. I didn't change any of the condition variables because I have no idea what they do. It looked fine in MCX, but in FS9 it looked like only a handful of animated parts showed up. Very comical, but not practical. :)

Hi,

And you did remove all animations before exporting?

Of course I did...after you asked me that and I figured out how to do it.

Very nice results. Had to adjust the pitch and height when placing it, but that's no big deal. Are the windows supposed to be opaque? Actually I think I like it that way because it hides the stupid looking people inside. I'd post a screen shot but for some reason the forum is not letting me attach any files.

Thanks mucho, Arno. :D
