• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I am having trouble with some aircraft in W7,GTX680,not showing any airframes.Any static model I make of them is also just the skeleton.Another W7 computer with GTX285 shows them normally.I wanted to make a static model using this computer, and see if it worked as a static in the 680 computer. But I am up against this Stearman problem.I thought I had got rid of the Stearman, but apparently not.I have deleted SAMM and reinstalled it.But when I clik select aircraft folder, instead of a list of all aircraft in Airplanes folder,I get a list of all the FSX folders, and when I scroll to and clik the Airplanes folder, all it offers me is the Stearman.Grrrrrr!

That's as it's supposed to be. (You might want to take a look at the middle of page 2 of the user manual). The three radio buttons at the top of the main dialog determine where SAMM looks for aircraft. Click on FSX and your FSX folder should open. If FSX is already selected, clicking the Select button beside the upper text box accomplishes the same thing. Then, select the aircraft folder of interest from the folder list - expanding as necessary to get to it. It will then be displayed in the upper text box. The lower text box will then display either "Select Aircraft Title" (if the folder contains more than one paint) or the title of the single paint in that folder. If you are experiencing anything else, then I'd suggest you take a close look at the aircraft.cfg file.

As noted in bold print in the manual, not every aircraft can be successfully converted with SAMM. That being said, it shouldn't matter on which computer you attempt to convert or display them - all other things being equal.

I thought I had got rid of the Stearman, but apparently not.
How is deleting and re-installing SAMM supposed to have helped?

I reinstalled in case the program had picked up a gremlin. When I clik select Aircraft folder on my main computer,it shows all the folders on the drive, and the airplane folder is already expanded, listing all the installed aircraft.I select one,and away I go.That does not happen on my other W7 computer.I have just installed SAMM on an XP computer to see what happens. When I clik on select Aircraft folder, the SimObjects folder is not expanded. When I clik on it,it expands, showing Airplanes,Animals, boats etc.The small box to the left of these has a+ in it except for Airplanes which is empty.Clicking on Airplanes produces an Avro Lincoln! No other choice available. At least it is a change from the Stearman. What this means is that I can not proceed to make any other static model.Since your program is working on my main computer,I had resigned myself to using that for static making, but I was hoping to make statics of these aircraft which appear as skeletons on main computer, but which appear normally on my other computers.I could then transfer them to use as library objects on my main computer.

.That does not happen on my other W7 computer
SAMM was developed on Win7-64. I works equally well with Vista and XP. It is a NET/Framework application and is managed by Windows.

Since no one else is reporting such problems and you acknowledge SAMM works well on your main computer, I suggest there is something in the configuration of the computers on which SAMM apparently doesn't work that is preventing it from working as you expect. Have you tried running as administrator to eliminate any permissions problems (as I suggested in the earlier thread on this topic)? Are you sure your FSX.cfg file is intact? Are the aircraft in the Airplanes folder SAMM doesn't recognize recognized by FSX? Are they valid FS9 or FSX aircraft?

The small box to the left of these has a+ in it except for Airplanes which is empty.Clicking on Airplanes produces an Avro Lincoln!
This suggests that is the only aircraft in that folder that SAMM recognizes (or is allowed by Windows to recognize) as a legitimate aircraft model. Are there any stock aircraft in that folder? Is that folder protected somehow?

but I was hoping to make statics of these aircraft which appear as skeletons on main computer, but which appear normally on my other computers.
I'm a little confused - actually a lot confused. You started off by suggesting only your main computer was working. What do you mean by "sketetons"? Are these legitimate FS9- or FSX-vintage aircraft? Are they rendered properly by FlightSim?

All my three computers have scores of aircraft in the Airplanes folder, including all the default ones.99% of them appear and perform normally in FSX.I am running as administrator. In my main,W7 computer, some of them appear without any airframe,ie a pilot sat at the controls, flying a seat and engine(s) with an undercarriage.I will have a go at sending a picture but may not be successful. This has nothing to do with SAMM.I believe it is my graphics card, because these aircraft show normally in computer one and two,but Nvidia can not come up with a solution.Using computer number three,SAMM makes a static model of these aircraft which is a faithful reproduction,a pilot flying a seat and engine on wheels.Computer one(XP) and two(W7) display these aircraft normally.I thought that I could therefore make static models of them, add to instant scenerybgl, and then use them in computer number three. But SAMM will not make models in computers one and two,so I am thwarted.Your explanation of the procedure to select an aircraft to produce a model is what I do in computer number three, but it does not work in computer one and two, because it will not show the list of available aircraft.

Then, without direct access to your computer, so long as you are running as administrator and you are not receiving any error messages, I'm at a total loss to explain.

No one else seems to be experiencing, or from my recollection has ever reported, such issues. Therefore, as I said in an earlier response, I can only conclude the issue has to do with the configuration of the computer(s) on which you are having difficulty.

Don't know what else I can do for you.

WBunnell.aug13 post.unanswered ,seems to be having something similar,Anyway thanks for your efforts Don.If you cannot solve it,nobody else can.

Colltip, it doesn't appear that wbunnel was experiencing the same problem as yours. His issue (apparently) was that the folder "roll-out" did not display all top-folders on his C: drive.

In any event, the reason I didn't respond to that post was that he edited it 5 minutes after posting (before I had a chance to respond) saying that he had fixed the problem - by running as administrator.

I trust you've tried that.

Don

Yes I keep checking that I have administrator rights,I have just tried system restore going back to June, but after running ages,it said it had failed because it could not find one file.I will keep plugging away at it.It is obviously connected to the Get aircraft from operation.I have just tried again. With FSX button lit,I clik select, and it shows me a C.I clik this and I get message.....Unable to expand the directory/file tree node.Access to the path'C:\09ae86e10a791d0bea6a'is denied......Ah,that is because I have lost administrator rights again.I am having to ask for them every time I run SAMM.With that sorted ,now when I clik select,it shows me a fully expanded C drive.but the Airplanes folder has no plus box to the left of it.Animals, boats etc have a plus box,and if I clik on it,it shows me elephants, giraffes etc.If I double clik on the word Airplanes,it takes me back to the SAMM main page and shows either a Stearman or Lincoln as the selected aircraft, depending on using computer one or two.On computer three, when I clik on select aircraft folder.it presents me with an already opened Airplanes folder, bursting with aircraft, and I have no problem selecting and making a static.

You should be able to run as administrator always by making the appropriuate setting of SAMM properties (right click SAMM icon).

Please send me a few aircraft from the aircraft folder that shows (nearly) empty - .air and aircraft.cfg files only.

Don

Thanks George,After an hours work I have finally got a zip folder on my desktop, and I will now try to add it to this.

Colltip, SAMM on my system has no trouble recognizing those aircraft. So, we're back to computer configuration. For whatever reason, Windows is not allowing you to see those folders.)

I've made all the suggestions I can think of in that area.

Don

Darn it.It took me so long to get a Zip folder on to the desktop that I think I have sent files from computer three,on which SAMM is working .If you think these are ok,I will send ones from another computer.

I have just opened the SAMM configuration settings on two of the computers. There are several items show as true on one and false on the other. Is this of any importance?

I assume you mean the SAMM.ini file. Depends on which ones are different. But none of those should selectively affect the display of aircraft folders. In any case, you control the navigation to the folders of interest

Back to computer configuration. The logic that determines whether a folder is an aircraft folder (and hence gets added to the list) is straightforward.

1. The folder must be at the top level in the SimObjects/Airplanes or other SimObjects folder,
2. It must not be a system or hidden folder.
3. You (the SAMM user) must have access permission - both to the folder and its contents.
4. Finally the aircraft.cfg file must categorize the aircraft as one of: airplane, helicopter or nothing. (That is true for all the aircraft you sent.)

If these four conditions are met, the folder will appear in the list of aircraft folders under the SimObjects\Airplanes or other top-level folder.

Conversely, if an aircraft folder doesn't appear, one or more of these conditions isn't being met.

Only you can determine whether or not these conditions are met.

I have wiped the hard drive on one of my computers in which SAMM says I only have one aircraft installed.I have reinstalled W7,FSX and SAMM.Everything is working normally,so the fault was presumably some corruption in the system. Thanks for your help in sorting it out.
