• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I would like to make a traffic file that does a t&g at the same airport. Also- another that comes from another airport, does t&g a couple of times and returns to beginning airport. Ideas? bob

See the thumbnail for sample method. A/C does takeoffs followed by TNGs for a length of time, then lands back. Repeats 5 times thru the day.

I don't think that you can make an A/C leave one airport, fly to another, do some TNGs and fly straight back to original airport. It would have to land after the TNGs, wait a short while before flying back to original airport.

Yes, you can make your AI visit an airfield to do T&Gs and then return to the start (or go on to another field). That's what 'add or 'insert leg' is for. However, you need to ensure that the departure time for the next leg is just a few minutes after the ETA set using the Override ETA box. When you set an ETA that is the time for the last approach and landing at that destination - so, if you set a leg to a field 20 minutes away and give an overridden ETA of an hour after the take-off time, the aircraft will do TNGs for 40 minutes at the destination. If the next leg departure (say to back home) is set between 3 and 7 minutes after the Overridden ETA, the AI will not land and vacate, it will TNG or go-around and begin the next sector. For any aircraft to actually touch and go, it must be on a VFR flight plan. IFR aircraft will do continuous go-arounds when the TNG box is ticked.

There are other factors that come into play in the FSX/P3D AI engine which may alter this behaviour, including the characteristics of the destination airfield, the amount of traffic in the area, the FDE of the AI aircraft, and the sheer bloody-mindedness of the sim(!) - see Jim Vile and Don Grovestine postings passim for more info, but this method generally works.

Tim,
thanks for correcting me on the idea of doing TNGs and going back to original airfield - it never occurred to me to do that - cannot imagine why - it is obvious now you say it.

Thanx both of you. I will go try this and see wh t trouble I can get myself into! hahaha Bob

Just be aware that AIFP will complain that the start of one leg is very close to the end of another when you compile the plan. It won’t stop you doing it, but it’ll let you know just in case that wasn’t your intention.

Will try to be aware of that. I have seen that before and the file still worked. Haven't the foggiest idea why. hahaha
