• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Textures

Hi there,

I have pictures of all side from a aircraft that I created in FSDS V3. What is the best way to place the textures on the exact place where they belong.
If I create a texture template the size of the bmp is someting like 1014 x 518 but the textures need to be 512x512 or 1024x1024

thanx maik

Hi!

If your template is 1014x518 then it will fit brilliantly on a 1024x1024 bitmap, leaving lots of room for all the other small details that need to be textured. :)

Or even 1024x512 comes quite close. That is also an allowed size, as it is a power of two. But I guess you can easily fill the other half of a 1024x1024 texture with other parts of your aircraft.

well thats not hard to understand, but It is hard to center the texture and to set the right size by marking the bitmap with the square

My suggestion is to turn things around a bit...

Create your proposed texture first, then map the model's mesh to fit the texture you made...

Frankly, it's a lot faster, and certainly less stessful...

"I have pictures of all side from a aircraft that I created in FSDS V3."

Does this mean that you have photographs/images of the real aircraft, and you want to apply those images.photos to the MODEL that you created in FSDS?

I'd like to know the answer to that question before I propose an answer, because it easily can get complicated real fast (to explain, not to do... just as explaining UVW mapping to me is extremely complicated, but a snap for someone who knows).

I'm actually curious too, as I'm learning this for the first time (mapping textures).

actualy I don't have real textures yet, honestly I don't really know how to create textures. Looking forward for a good solution.
The images that I use know are only screenshots of a CAD program of my friend's airplane.
I used those pics as backdrops too but with a little work on it I guess I can use them as texture too.
