• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Texturing problem

Hello

I tried to make an airport building (block 50m x 10m x 5m); to texture the faces, I have built 12 "vertical" polygons (10m wide x 5m high), and texture the external face with different parts cut in the same bmp (novagold015).
All is correctly displayed in FSDS 3D view.

Problem comes from the fact I first tried to texture every polygon with an other bmp file, before choosing novagold015.
In Instant Scenery, the building is still displayed with parts of the first bmp instead of the right one.
In Part /Display Texture List menu, I get Project Texture List, with the 3 needed textures, but still the bad undesired bmp; I can select it, but no way do delete it. All parts initially textured with first bmp, keep to be.
Thanks for help! I allready noticed that every time I made changes in a project, they are not taken in consideration. The only way seems to entirely rebuild a new project, with definitive choices!

Hi, obviously the best way is to delete all the textures in the Part Texture Assignment window. Then delete all the textures from the Texture List. Click Ok and disregard any warnings. To be safe save the fsc file under another name. You should now have a grey shiny box. You say you use Instant Scenery. This must mean that you have compiled either a bgl or mdl - Just delete them. You can always make them again from your origianl file if necessary. Or if you want to really keep them, just rename them with an additional ending e.g. Office.bgl.original - this will not show up in fs and you can always place them on your desktop for safety. Then just start again.
If this doesn't work just upload them fsc file of FSDS and I will look at it for you.

Hello

I can't get rid of the previous undesired texture!
I delete all files, and started a new project, with 5 boxes 10x10x5, and a roof box. Every box is separately created at its final position, textured, and saved as part in fsp files.

Then, create new project, and load the 5 boxes + roof, directly at their position. FSDS preview is ok as seen on following pic:

Unfortunately, after creating mdl and library, final result in Instant Scenery is wrong: box3 is shifted on its left in place of box2.

Behaviour of FSDS seems very strange! Does it come from a FSDS problem, or did I make a wrong action?

Hi, so in my experience when you encounter displaced objects it is usually because the axis is not where it should be - in the centre! select the object and from the Part Menu choose 'Center Axis to Part'.
In the past I used to put all the axis at the bottom - then I spoke to Adam of Abacus and he told me to change it to the center. This was when I was having problems similar to yours when things were displaced. On another occasion I placed an object and the door I made was displaced. I ignored it then restarted FS9 and it was where it was supposed to be.
The other thing to remember is that when choosing textures you MUSTselect each one separately not copy and paste from the one above or from the previous object.
As for the textures I have sent you a PM with my email address if you want to send me the FSDS file to look at, perhaps I can see what is wrong.

Thanks for help!
Indeed, I loaded every part (fsp) and made 'Center Axis to Part' to everyone.
Then, made the mdl and the library bgl.
Now, my building appears correctly in FSX!
Good, but it took a long time to have the solution; is there a forum with precise tutos about FSDS with such "secret" infos?

Now it "daily" works, my next step will be to try to use night texture. My building uses parts cut from 3 classical bmp (NovaGold021, Vod00 and Vod110; everyone as its _LM file).
When choosing texture (Texture Definition window), I have the browse button to choose file, and a "Night" flag check box.
For instance, when I need Novagold021 for a wall, I choose Novagold021.bmp and cut the "window" part I need.
If I need night textures, is it enough to check "Night" at this moment? Will the NovaGold021_LM automatically be added and the same "window" part cut in it? Or does it need to re-do the whole work for night?

I noticed that even if doing nothing, the FSDS 3D night preview is automatically updated.

Thanks for help. Pierrot - FMEP

Isn't it great when everything comes together!
This is the best forum for tips and advice but you can look at this link for more information and tutorials. http://www.freeflightdesign.com/tutorials.html
As you can see if you browse the forums a lot of people are using GMAX and other programs. You must search the forums for help. I have found many a tip and help from past threads.
As for night textures look at the help of FSDS under 'How Materials and Textures Interact' - there is plenty to read. I searched for 'night textures' in the FSDS help.

Thanks for answer and link.
Project is finished, but I didn't check the "night" option on the first texture choice. Now, I would just add the "N" option.
It seems the only possibility is to clear texture, then choosing again, to get the options window, but in this case, it needs to make again every cut part.

More precisely, my question is to know if it's possible just to access to the "night" check box, without wasting time to do again all previous texture work.

It has been my experience that, whether the night box is checked in FSDS or not, FS9 will use an XXX_LM.bmp at night if it is available.
