• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

TGA format not recognized

Hi again, everybody.
Here I am with another strange fact that happens to me since I've upgraded Paint Shop Pro from V8 to V8.1. Actually it seems like PSP is unable to save a texture image in a TGA format that imagetool can read. The alpha channel is OK, but when I try to open the file with imagetool I got an error log that says something like "unable to read this TGA format...". I bypassed this by saving the same image in tha TGA format with another old and very simple freeware software (Iphoto Plus) and everything got well, but it's seems to me a strange thing that a powerfull tool like PSP fails with something so simple
Maybe there are some settings in the "save options" menù that must be fix, but after some tries I gave all the thing up. Can someone help? :D
Thanks in advance as always.
Mauro.

Gday mate,

once you have created your mask in PSP and saved it to the image, you then want to save the actual file !

When you choose Save As, you have the window for where you want to save the new TGA file to.

In the lower Right corner of the window there is a Tab called Options , open it !

Make sure you choose UnCompressed and save your image, you can then use it in Imagetool.

Caught me out a few times before i worked it out !

Hi JeffS.
Thanks for your kind hint.
I'm sorry to say I've already hit that path, since I've made many attemps to solve this boring pittfall of PSP. I can also tell you that the format of the original texture is a 512 x 512, 24bit BMP image, 300.000 pixel/inch and that if I work it out to obtain a 72.000 pixel/inch BMP image (still a 512x512 pixels one) and then I convert it to a TGA format, than all I got is a greenish image in imagetool. Moreover the image is upside down! (This is very strange since when use imagetool to open the TGA format image I made with IphotoPlus all I got is a normal full colored one, basement-to-roof oriented!! ).
Since I'm not able to open the TGA-format image made with PSP with any of the others design tools I've got on my PC (Imaging from Microsoft, just to say one), I'm starting to thing I've missed some patch from Jasc or, maybe that the upgrade to version 8.1 did corrupt some of the dll's...).
Any other suggestion? :teacher:
Ciao. M.

I have had this problem before in PhotoShop as well. But then I just switched to the PSD format that ImageTool also supports. So maybe if PSP also can write as PSD you can use that format (or some BMP formats also support an alpha channel).

Yes, PSP supports the PSD format (as many others, of course...), but it remains a weird thing that such a worldwide spread software has got such a bug (or maybe imagetool itself, I don't know  ).
Anyway, thanks for your hint, I'll cope with that bug and I won't think about it anymore ;)
Gnite.

Imagetool supports PSD? Okay I need more info ;) details details ;)

Just save as PSD and ImageTool can open it :). If you have defined an alpha channel in your PSD file it is also loaded correctly. Works very easy. And that's about all details there are I guess :D.
