• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

The annotator veggie problem

Greetings All,
After a spell just coming back to look at FSX again.

Can someone assist with the FSX annotator. I can get an autogen building to appear on a DXT1 tile OK. However having difficulty understanding what to do to get veggies to show up.

I have the ‘Control’ menu open and have clicked the ‘Vegetation(V)’ option but when I attempt to click a starting point on the image tile I get “Must have a valid vegetation GUID set” message appear. I notice that the Control menu has a message saying “GUID NULL” .

I also have the Autogen configuration editor open, and the ‘Model Entries’ and the ‘Properties’ that shows me the Friendly Name and GUID number of a veggie.

In a previous thread TOPROB suggested the following after a question (18-1-2007):
“So how do you set the vegetation GUID to draw a vegetation autogen polygon?

Yes, the Annotator documentation is a bit... brusque.
To select vegetation:
When you start up Annotator the Autogen Configuration Editor will open as well. From this, open autogendescriptions.xml. Now select either a Grouping or a Regionalization -- just click on it.

(FrankK:I note that it is actually autogendescriptions.spb not xml as given in the docs))

I tried the above suggestion but cannot get the annotator to recognize the GUID

So how do I get the veggie polygon or box on the tile?

Thanks

I often get this - explaining the problem and then it gets solved in the process. Things are now working for me!.:)

I had the same problem- There are two steps.

Open the bgl you want to annotate with the annotation tool (File>Open)
Open the AutogenDescriptions.XML from the AutogenConfigurationEditor (it is the xml you need to open) This is located in ..........SDK\Environment Kit\Autogen SDK\Autogen source xml

The AutogenConfigurationEditor will display the list of the regionalisations and groupings or vegetation- You need to highlight a regionalisation or grouping (i.e. this is the group which it randomly selects from at run time- If you want to use just a specific tree model there will be a separate grouping or regionalisation for it)

now click the 'Set GUID' button and draw the vegetation box (V) or Polygon region (I)

Ive noticed that the precision on polygon regions is quite low- For example, digitising a vegetation polygon near a coastline (Say, within 50m) you will end up with trees in the water. Use a vegetation box for this detail work.

Hope that helps- if not, ask again ;)
