• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi ARNO.
I have a proposal to implement in MCX BackgroundColor same as it is in SketchUp.
Like so:

Hi,

I have been thinking before that it could be nice to display a ground level for some objects as well. I guess that's what you mean. Should not be that hard to add I guess....

And of course a next step would be to render shadows on the ground :)

Hi ARNO.
Say you have plans to add to ModelConverterX all the features of irreplaceable MDL Tweaker II ?

Hi,

It won't be possible to add all features from MDL Tweaker II to ModelConverterX. That's because the tools are different.

ModelConverterX uses MakeMDL and XtoMDL to export the objects, so I am limited to the limitations of these tools. MDL Tweaker II could work around those limitations, because I directly wrote the binary MDL file.

Another difference is that ModelConverterX works for more formats than only FS2004 MDL (the main target is maybe even FSX MDL) and not all of these formats support all the tweaks possible in FS2004. For example season textures won't work on FSX MDL files.

I am only FS2004 only ...
Create a model in SketchUp, ModelConverterX often export in MDL and. .. working with MDL in MDL Tweaker II because ModelConverterX cannot yet:
1. Remove shadow (not working)
2. Add a conditions object
3. Edit Unity normals
4. Edit bounding box

By the way, ModelConverterX does not work Z-Bias, at a distance from an object at 1.5-2 km-textures are beginning to flicker ...

Hi,

The first two items are probably not possible through MakeMDL, maybe I can once port the MDL Tweaker functionality as a kind of post-export tweak.

I think number 3 should be possible, if I write the normals correctly to the X file. I'll put that on the wishlist.

Number 4 is not possible either, MakeMDL will calculate it for you. Altough that bounding box should normally be OK for the object.

I would have to check, I think the zbias might not be exported correctly for FS2004 MDL files. I'll put that on the list as well.
