• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

transparent objects

Hello
I have spent hours and hours with unpredictable results.
Can anybody give clear info concerning transparent objects (FSDS 351 + FSX)

1/ How to create texture (I use Gimp + DXTBMP)?
Pixels? Save Format?
2/ How to use it in FSDS? Check "Transparent" in "Part properties"? Use Part or Poly texturing?
3/ I need to create letters (AIRPORT) on transparent background, and fences. Better to use a box (with small depth), or rectangular polygon + clone/flip.

Thanks to help me to spare hours of work!

it does not work like this anymore !

you need now to attach to your material (texture for fsds) specific maps, and fsds cannot do it yet ! there's a small tool to tweak fsds x files and attach them maps with a command line argument and a configuration file. I did not test it.

Hello
Thanks for answer.
Curiously, some textures seem to work with transparency!
However, resluts seem to be unpredictable.
At the moment, I wait for solution in next version.

I keep on creation of scenery buildings without (provisiously) using transparent elements; I have many to do too with terrain, shorelines, ... (Madagascar FSX Project)

I've made transparent textures in FSDS 351 + FSX by using an alpha channel texture and then flagging "night" in the manage texture definition box. I did not add _LM after the texture name. Don't ask me why this works. I got total and partial transparency in FSX buildings depending on the alpha channel used.
