• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Trying Modeling Again

Hey all, I was just wondering, what is really the best part to use for a fuselage of an aircraft -- is it Cylinder or Tube? Tube of course is empty to insert the V/C and so forth, but what is the easiest to hape fuselages with so you get that extra smooth edge afterward?

Thanks for helping me get this set up -- I fooled around with it before, but it was basic tube/square shapes so it was no issue --

I figure, if everybody else can do it, I can do it....:)

Really appreciate any help I can get here....

Thanks in advance...

John

The real answer, of course, is "whatever feels best".

A. Cylinder

B. Tube

C. Yes,

D. Neither...

E. loft based on spline sections

F. attach spline sections, attach and cross section ..

G. etc.

The "best" technique will change for the type of body/part you want to make. If you are STARTING to model, I would suggest a simple cylinder...

I will seriously recommend Milton Shupe's tutorial. on modelling. You will earn one way of creating a model.

Also, make sure you are comfortable with your modelling program's tutorials (I'm assuming you're using gmax).

In short, there is no real "best way".

Thanks Felix -- that's what I kind of figured, to each his own on what they feel best with working with.

Do you have a link for the tutorial? I think I know which one you're talking about, but not really 100% sure.

Of course I'm familiar with Milton Shupe's work -- it's fantastic! :)

Thanks for the reply :)

Yes, using Gmax -- sorry :o
