• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Use custom variable to control effect ?

Hi,

Was wondering if there is any way one could control an effect (switch it on/off) based on a custom variable ? I would like to add some sound effects to my aircraft when certain actions take place in the exterior: e.g. some sound when a PAX or cargo door is opening, sound of APU start-up and running APU...

I couldn't find anything in the SDK indicating that you have control when the effect takes place appart from time of day an the likes...

Thanks for the help,
Björn

For "doors" you could simply use the sound.cfg file and specify the sound to play there:

[EXIT_OPEN]
filename=door_small_open

[EXIT_CLOSE]
filename=door_small_close

OTOH, if you are programming a C gauge, it is simple to detect any condition and play a sound file as desired.

What I want to do is add a sound to the APU and the GPU.

I have created an effect file for each of these, with a sound file. I want the sound to only be audible when you are in outside view not when you are inside the cockpit. After all you can't hear an APU when you are in the cockpit of a big airliner !

Unfortunately I have run into two issues now:

- the sound effect of the GPU and the APU are very audible inside the cockpit, even more so than when in outside view !
- the sound effect doesn't stop when the visible effect stops !

So not very usable so far...

Any hints or tips are welcome !

Björn
