• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Using Sketchup/MCX with default FSX textures

As the title suggests, I am using Sketchup and ModelConverterX to create buildings for my scenery project. Several of the default FSX textures (hangars mostly) would be fine to use on the objects.

Is there a way I can use the FSX textures without copying/modifying them?

Thanks for all the help given on fsdevelopers.com!

Henry

Hi Henry,

Yes, you can. You should just be able to load them in SketchUp (or maybe you first need to convert them to a format the SketchUp can read). Just make sure you don't change the name.

Then the name should be kept when you export to COLLADA. In ModelConverterX when converting you do it as normal, but just make sure that you remove the new texture that ModelConverterX will make. As long as the name is the same, FS should load the existing default texture instead from the main texture folder.

Arno,

thanks for confirming where I was headed. In converting to Sketchup compatible, do I need to rotate the texture 180 deg?

Use the MCX Texture Converter to convert them to .jpgs, the Converter will flip them for you.

BTW, it's flip, not rotate, 2 different things.

cheers,

Sorry for the late response..real life interrupted scenery design.

This works GREAT!! Thanks for all the guidance. A huge step forward for me and my texturally challenged capabilities.
