• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS2004 What would you do with this airport (LEMH)?

Hi all,

Since I tumbled oven an error in my PMDG database I decided to rework LEMH (Menorca, Spain) based on the official airport diagram:

As far as I understand, it says, that Rwy 01R/19L is only exceptionally in use with prior notice (NOTAM). How would you deal with such a case in AFCAD2 or ADE - ah, thanks to Jon ("ScruffyDuck")!!!?

What I did:

a) (before ADE was able to deal with FS9) I reworked the airport layout, made some exclusions by using ExecBuilder2 in order to get rid of taxi signs, some trees etc. without loosing the buildings and other nice objects. See the next picture:

LEMH2009-07-30_01AFCAD.jpg

b) Starting with ADE 1.45.05, I imported now all objects, replaced them and began to overhaul all taxi signs. That's the result (a fraction of it):

What I would like to know:

1. How should the runway marking for Rwy 01R/19L be? In Google Earth it is marked as closed ("X") but it appears to me that the picture is not up-to-date due to some other (painted) taxi signs not being in line with the latest airport documentation.

2. How should I handle the taxi signs in the vicinity of Rwy 01R/19R? How this would be dealt with in reality?

3. Should I introduce "Hold Short nodes as well?

4. How to deal with one-way taxi ways like "E"? The "G" one I marked with an "X" (it's hidden) and No Entry taxi signs but the latter alone will have no effect, I think.

5. Is there a possibility that AI follows taxiway "T" when it is defined including runway links? I only got it, when overlaying "normal" taxiways with the runway. Otherwise AI crossed the (passive) rwy and used the active one for taxiing. What did I wrong?
**EDIT** I did not read properly the ADE documentation. The need for "blue lines" is explained there.

What would you do in such cases?

BTW, in the past I only made some small AFCAD, flattening and exclusion operations and never any kind of airport design. However, its not my home airport nor has it any other importance for me rather than learning some basic principles. Anyway, I'm a bloody beginner and quite keen to learn.

Thanks in advance.

I think you are on the right track. Leave blue taxi line under the runway, and set it to "T". I think departing AI and ATC taxi instructions will be via H2 or A1. You shouldn't see D or E used for outbound so I would not worry about them. Inbound traffic should cross over the runway, unless it exits on C then it obviously has to taxi down the runway. I would not do any hold shorts at the runway. Looks like you have the markings correct. I would not add any lights. As far as signs, it isn't obvious how they would be set up. Judging from the GE image maybe they rely mainly on the painted signs on the taxiway.

I think the ideal solution might be to create a GMAX ground poly for the unused runway.

That's what it looks like Scott when testing with different wind directions.

AI seems to have tremendous well working brakes, It always stopped before loosing the chance to taxi directly to the stands.

Indeed, there was no sign visible at all. However, I would be rather interested in RL solutions how to deal with "not-really-in-use-runways" in terms of markings and
signs than in the particular case alone.

I think the ideal solution might be to create a GMAX ground poly for the unused runway.
Ooh, didn't I write that I'm a beginner in airport design? When FS9 was pretty new I registered to GMAX and fiddled a bit with the tutorials (I can remember a green mace) but due to the demands of real life I never looked deeper into it and today it's even worse. However, thanks a lot for the response Scott.
