• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

What's wrong with this picture?

As you can see from the in-sim overhead shot, at the top where the poly and the original lake meet, I have a problem and I'm having a hard time visualizing what it is I need to do to correct this. I am also showing the buildup in SBuilderX that shows the Hydro_poly, the flatten, the main "exclude all terrain items" poly and there is also a line in there for a new shoreline.

Any help will be appreciated. I don't want to do anything more than close that sharp gap at the top in the sim.

Thanks

Hi,
Your screens show that you modified 1 LOD. Waterclass may be wrong in the LOD just above. Did you check it ?

I'm new to a lot of this so here's what I found via the TmfViewer. You can see the "spike" in question, but how do I correct it?

I'm not used to working with LC WC and so on. Anyway your screens show that a little part of your design cross the LOD grid. You shoud try cutting your WC just below the grid line.

Generally, you need to extend your project to the next QMID 11 boundary. If the boundary is very close to your project, as it appears in this case, you might need to work up to next QMID. You can try a partial QMID 11 exclude and work from there. If you work up to the QMID boundary I find using the clip to QMID 11 works well, as long as there are only 2 points on the boundary after clipping. Delete any extra (interior) points on the segments along the boundary.

I had reworked all this in fs9, and imported it into an fsx project a couple years ago, but ultimately decided UTX Can was easier so I shelved it (though keeping my airports, but they all need to be updated to ADE 14506 specs). I think Reggie Fields also did a CYRV a ways back, but probably in need of revisiting.

In this shot I was using topos I got from Canada (this was from time before easy downloading of aerial tiles in Sbuilder!) You can see I actually went up a couple of QMID11 cells (cut off on the top of this shot though).

Wherever you decide to stop, you need to "fake" a blend with the default or other terrain you are joining to. Usually then fly it in the sim and fine tune the edge of your hydro poly and shore. Note that there are a couple rocky shorelines in the default terrain.cfg and one is 5 meters wide and the other 10. The 10 m one will hide more "sins" of placement.
