• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Where to get elevation data?

I hope this is the appropriate place to ask. Im looking for elevation data for Stockholm and specifically Bromma (ESSB). This airport really needs more detailed elevation data because the tower is on a hill, taxiways near terminal are pretty much downhill etc and it really doesnt feel like being there without all this. Raw data would be ok (not BGL). I think i could convert it myself as i know how to edit airports, taxyways already etc.

the best public domain data for Scandinavia I'm aware of are provided by Jonathan de Ferranti: http://www.viewfinderpanoramas.org/dem3.html

He does have 1 arc-sec data for southern Scandinavia, which means a raster grid of about 30-m spacing.

Not sure if that's detailed enough for your needs. For smaller areas around airports you may need additional data (e.g., local topographic maps) or tweaks, such as SBuilder's sloped flattens etc.

Thanks! I think 30meter grids are better than what i have at ESSB at the moment. Is there some app like SBuilder that works with FSX? From what i see SBuilder doesnt.

Also, i heard that FSX "flattens" the area around the airport. Is there a way to control this behaviour?

Hi again, i cannot really find this 1 arc-sec data for Stockholm. He has everything north of Stockholm in 3 arc-sec. I havn´t found anything but that. Do you think you could help me further?

Hi there,

oops, sorry, my mistake. For some reason I thought he also had data south of N60. I guess in that case you're stuck with the 90-m SRTM data available here: ftp://e0srp01u.ecs.nasa.gov/srtm/version2/SRTM3/ . However, that probably won't be much of an improvement on the default. You can check this by downloading some of the free mesh files for Scandinavia; I believe there's some at simviation.

There's an FSX version of SBuilder available in the AVSIM library.
