• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi.
I am new to gmax,i have paintshop pro8,and have done a few repaints, now i have decided to try messing about with aircraft model making for FS9,there are 15 sdk`s under fs9,do i just need the one for gmax,or do i need some others, like aircraft container sdk/make mdl sdk,or do i need all 15.
Thanks in advance.
regards alan.

Hi,

With the GMax SDK you are set to start modelling. That allows you to make the MDL files of your object. I am not an aircraft developer myself, so I am not sure which other SDKs you need to do the dynamics and other details of your aircraft. But I am sure there is more to making an aircraft than only the modelling with GMax.

For the actual modelling, you just need the makemdl SDK (i.e, "the Gamepack")

To actually get it to fly, the aircraft container SDK tells you about the aircraft.cfg file.

To understand what the gauges and panels do - the panels and gauges SDK is a good read.

For the actual modelling, you just need the makemdl SDK (i.e, "the Gamepack")

That's the GMax SDK. The MakeMDL SDK only contains the compiler, not the rest of the gamepack. But it has some useful documentation you should read.

Hi Arno.
Thankyou for the advice on sdk`s,i have downloaded what i think i will need, these are:-
Aircraft_container_setup
FS2004_sdk_gmax_setup
FS2004_sdk_special_effects_setup
Makemodel_sdk_setup
Panels_sdk_setup

The one i unzipped and installed with the self loader so far is the FS2004_sdk_gmax_setup,but it does not seem to have installed as i would have thought it would,i cannot seem to get to the gamepacks, now this sdk comes with some instructions that i ignored, because its if you have the gmax installed for fs2002 which i never had.
the gmax i have is from the fs2004 disc, and is version 1.2.
Now on looking at the files,am i right in assuming that the fs2004 shortcut that is 2kb in size, should be put on desktop, and used to open gmax instead of the gmax icon,in order to get to the gamepack for fs2004.

Hi,

Installing the GMax SDK is quite easy. Make sure you point the installer to the folder where you installed GMax (by default C:\GMax). After install you should find a folder gmax\gamepacks\fs2004. In there is a shortcut that you need to start GMax with to get the FS2004 gamepack. That is all.

Hi Arno.
No thats not all, something as happened, now Gmax will not open with this fs2004 link, what settings need to be applied, for it to work,i now have to delete and re-install this sdk in order to get back to square one, unless you know what to press to get -H,which it is asking for.

Hi Arno.
I have got the sdk re-installed,when you klick on the short cut,a window opens, with some settings that are req`ed.
There is a bullet indicator in heidi and a bullet indicator in software buffer by default, and a blank position for another setting under custom driver.
Under these settings are three more choices, open gl,direct 3d,custom.
If you select the cancel button, then the gmax fires up,but which settings do i need to select in this box,for it to work with fs9,and to stop this box showing every time i fire up gmax.

Hi,

Which driver settings you have to choose depends a lot on the hardware you have. I try the OpenGL one first normally, but if that does not perform so well on your graphics card try some of the other ones. There is no right or wrong choice here.

Hi Arno.
Yep got the gl driver assigned, yesterday, but before i did this, and while it was working under heidi driver,my zone alarm played fun and games with gmax, when something tried to get passed the internet lock, just as i was getting to know the mace tutorial,so i would like to warn others of this little problem, incase it happens to them.
The screen went white, cursor played funny devels, programe became unworkable, and all work done up till then was lost.
So if you are doing any serious work,i would suggest you disconnect from the web totally, and switch off any spyware zonealarm progs,so you dont get any interference from them.

Hi arno.
On another note,in game packs under tools, with the gmax sdk there is an imagetool, how is this activated,is it just a link within gmax,or is it a programe that has to be double klicked on to load into gmax.
regards alan.

Imagetool.exe has absolutely NOTHING to do with Max/GMax or any other program...

It is a stand-alone image conversion tool ACES has provided.
