• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Has anyone been able to run FSDS in windows 10 with no problems? Since upgrading from win 7 I have lost the solid view and the ability to load textures (access to unnamed file denied error).Trouble is I am right in the middle of a project which will grind to a halt if I cant get this to work. Any suggestions please.

I upgraded to Windows 10 recently and everything works OK, including FSX, Photoshop, 3ds Max, Gmax, ModelConverterX, Airport Design Editor X, SbuilderX...etc.
However, I have never been a FSDS user so I can't tell you it will work properly or not!
But as I told you earlier, I can confirm that all the development tools mentioned above are working good so far after upgrade to Windows 10! ;)

The error message may point to the problem: check the path to the texture's folder is correct. Then you may have to change folder permissions for FSDS to get read/write access.

Thanks for your replies, have now sorted it needed to be run as administrator. The project can continue phew!

I have no problem with FSDS in Win 10. I have not needed to do run as admin but maybe your machine is a bit different. glad it is working now for ya.

Hi now I have a new problem, after reinstalling FSDS, v3 opens and runs well but 3.5 will not run after the set up screens. Any ideas folks.

Make sure to install FSDS NOT in any program files (x86). Make a folder called Abacus and then install FSDS into that folder. Then try it again.

Wow! I would ask Scott Hendricks. Try to find a post or reply of his and PM him.
My above suggestion usually is quite helpful. Looks like there is something else going on here. don't give up, and if you find the problem, let me know.

Only other thing that just came to mind.............. Version 3 looks for the Fs9 SDK.

Make absolutely sure that during the set screens in preferences that you "point" FSDS 3.5.1 to FSK SDK.... NOT the FS9 sdk.

This extremely important. FS9 uses makemdl while FSX uses xtomdl compile engine.

So all the set up items must point to the FSX SDK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll put in a few more.... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Take note- xtomdl might be in either 3dsm7 or 3dsm9 or even under plug ins in either or both of those. If you found it in 3dsm9 and FSDS has a cow trying to compile and can't.... change your target to xtomdl from 3dsm7 and then plug ins if it's there. Odd I know but it happened to me. xtomdl was in 3dsm9\plug ins and I got an error message xtomdl not found., so I switched from 3dsm9\plug ins over to 3dsm7\plug in ( found xtomdl in both on my machine) and it then worked.
