• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Windows 7

Last night, I upgraded from Vista to Windows 7. I figured that everything was going to be developed for W7 instead of Vista (and I like eye candy:D) I also assumed it would slightly help my framerates.

What an understatement! I went from being lucky getting 15 frames with Vista to getting over 40 frames! I would suggest anyone having framerate troubles with Vista to switch to W7.:D

Any comments?

Michael, I noticed the same thing when I was forced to buy a new 'puter for my FS machine that died.

A fresh install of FSX on a new Win7 machine just sings and dances! ;)

I'll second that one... Windows 7 really is a secret ingredient to frame rate optimization.

framerate anxiety

a fresh install on any pc wil increase zipp, regardless of the os..i run xp, vista, linux, w7..not all on the same system..since fs9 ive always built my own systems. vista and now w7 are tuned by me, to fit what i do.fsx acc, gmax, fsds,etc...you would find it difficult to tell the difference between vista, and w7 on my machines.fsx is a strange bird and framerates dont necessarily mean what people think. i tune the sim visually and pretty much ignore framerates.

theres some anecdotal evidence that 64 bit os improves visual zip, but i am still trying to figure out how a 32 bit app can be accelerated by a 64 bit os?
any ideas anybody..fsx,acc. does use 2 cores, the second core uses win 32 fibres for scenery loads...this is not multi threading..but it is damn clever...
the best you can get for fsx acc at the moment....core i7 975 extreme edition
p6t ws professional workstation mobo..6gig domi extreme 1600 ram..2 300 gb velociraptors..huge cpu cooler, and until the nvidia fermi gpu hits the streets,a
old 8800gtx gpu...ive just installed an ati 5870 single gpu in a new build...not for fsx,she wont let me use it for a test, anyone tried it with fsx, acc?

ati cards have a bad rep in fs due to theyre design..they rule in crysis, but thats only a game..
