• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Winter Textures

When adding winter seasonal textures to my object I made them appear from December to February.

However, in FS when you go there during the winter there is no snow on the ground but the object is snowed in so it doesn't match up well. This is for ground polygons so you can see how very white polygon wont match up with the green around it.

Is there anyway to make it change so it is only "snowed in" when its snowing, just like how the terrain textures work?

Thanks,
Kobbe

Hi,

That is not really easy, as there is no variable that the scenery can easily use to tell you it is snowing.

If there is always snow in the winter it might help to set the seasonal condition to these specific range of days.

If you only want this effect when it is actually snowing, the only solution I can think of is the use of a special module to tell you if it is snowing. I have done something similar in my ActiGate modules, it can also tell you if it is snowing or not. But such a module makes the scenery a lot more complex, so I would only recommend it if the snow effect is really important :).

PS. Talking about Fs2004 techniques here, not sure if this all works in FsX as well (probably not).

I haven't found snow on the ground at all during any of the months until I switch snow on in the weather.

It does snow a lot, though, so seeing an area untouched by snow surrounded by an area covered in it would not really work out that well.

Vice versa as well.

Maybe I should go with the Actigate thing, not sure.

Is it hard to figure out?

Thanks arno

It's hard to say it if it is hard to figure out :). Personally I would say no it is not hard. But to get it working would require some hand editing of your ASM source files. So if you are not familiar with that, it could be quite some challenge.
