• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi Folks

Arno -
Is the Dutch media reporting tons of rubbish
materialising out of thin air just outside Zwolle. :D

Wizards - Convert & place object wizard -
I'd thought this was working previously, so its probably me. :o

MCX C&P wizard is currently exporting all BGL objects to that location,
even though correct coords are listed,
and map is correctly centered.

XML's coords output is correct,
so I can compile to correct location.

Hi Paul,

Humm, I am not aware I changed something there, but let me check what is wrong here...

Hi Paul,

I can't reproduce it here. I tried with both a COLLADA file and an API macro. I can position it on the map and the coordinates I enter are used to create the XML placement.

In what situation does it not work for you?

Hi Folks

Arno -
As it happens for me....... :D

Open MCX.
Run the wizard.
Coords and map initialise at default Zolle location.

Import an existing BGL from somewhere else, e.g. USA.

On providing an export filename and path, (use a new folder),
coords and map are updated to correct location, e.g. USA.
Do not touch these.

Export the object's new instance to a new folder.
Close MCX.

Open MCX.
Run the wizard.
Coords and map initialise at default Zolle location.

Import that object's new instance from its new folder.

On providing an export filename and path, (use a new folder),
coords and map should be updated.

Look at coords and map.
The exported BGL had been placed at Zolle.

However matching XML had been correctly saved, e.g. USA.

Hi Paul,

I'll check your steps.

Hi Paul,

Could it be the original BGL was not a FSX BGL file? The position of objects is currently not read from FSX BGL files. So that explains why on loading them you don't see the default position change on the map. The tool simply does not read the position (at the moment).

Hi Folks

Arno -
Ok, that partly explains it. :D

Original was an FS8 file in the UK.
Exported as a new FSX file supposedly to the UK.

Reimported FSX file gave position as Zolle.

Other aspect was my fault,
and lies with why I was using MCX -

The FS8 object wasn't being displayed at expected location.

Wizard converted to an FSX object.
FSX object didn't display at expected location.

So I imported the FSX object,
and coords apparently had it positioned at Zolle.

Turns out an as yet unidentified BGL is suppressing the object. :banghead:

Sorry about that. :o

Many thanks

Hi Paul,

No problem. I think I should put it on my todo list to also read placement for FSX BGL files. But since there is no one-to-one relation between object and placement I skipped it initially I think (there can be multiple placements for the same object in a BGL in FSX).
