• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX X14 My first foray into scenery design

Hi,

This is the very early work in progress for La Belle Municipal Airport Fl. Not only is this my very first post, its also my first ever attempt at designing scenery for FSX. Critique and advice are most welcome, as are any photo's anyone may have of La Belle and be willing to share.

The runway, taxi ways and aprons are all modelled in Gmax

This is the planned extensions to the airport (in red waiting to be textured). I'm planning to have this as an option.

A few textures I've made for the runway, taxi ways and aprons.

Cheers Matt.

Nice, we allways need detailed airfields to Florida, thank you for making La Belle airport. Hope we see more Florida airports from you :)

Looking good Matt.

Big project! Textures look nice. Will be intersting to see it come together.

Started building the first of two 8 bay T hangars. Only the basic outline to show at the moment

Imported onto my ground poly to make sure its to scale. Its starting to look better now :)

Looking good! However, I would personally advise you to model the ground poly using a satellite image, as that will be more accurate than the GIS drawing for the existing part of the airport. You can use the blueprints to finish off the newer part :)

Thanks for all the kind comments on my work so far :)

Michael, I have been cross referencing everything with Google Earth and Bing Maps images. So far all sources of images seem to agree with each other. La Belle from my searching seems to be the least photographed place on earth.

Made the most of the last day of annual leave, roll on the weekend! Finished the modelling for the 8 bay T hangars (which I have made several modifications from the original model made) and started the texturing. As with my other textures they are all made by hand with the Mk.I eyeball and reference to the few images I can locate. I dont know how well it will show here, but in Photoshop you can see the detail of the texture nicely where I have tried to recreate the look of the sheet steal skin used on the hangars.

Thanks Skippy. A little progress today with texturing of the first hangar. Im not totally satisfied with it, so I will have a look tomorrow with fresh(er) eyes.

Looks great Matt! If it helps, add a slight black-to-transparent gradient at the bottom of each face of the hangar, it adds a lot more detail to the final model.

Thanks deccas, I shall give your suggestion a try tomorrow. Ive decided to totally rebuild the model for the nth time lol.

The fruits of my days labour:

Finally modelled the 8 bay T hangar to my satisfaction (excuse the blue on blue)

Started modelling the Maint. hangar

And a little sign, that appears on 3 hangars. I couldn't make out all the text on the sign from the photos, so made the lower most text up lol.

Very much slow progress as I'm learning as I go. Thanks for looking.

Thanks Clutch.

A a bit more of an update, you could say progress is slow lol. But I'm getting there slowly. Spending most of my time redoing previous textures and models. I have managed to get the new runway, taxi ways and aprons. Its not really in the wrong place, the default airports ARP is wrong. I need to make an exclude and finish off the final textures for runway and taxi way markings.

And finally a few minor objects to go round the airport created while I was messing around with textures, learning a few new tricks :)

Just in case you don't know where you are...

Are feeling a little thirsty.....

And fancy taking the weight off your feet

Spent all day yesterday re-doing my ground poly. I'd learned new things since I did the ground poly so I naturally wanted to include them. As an added bonus I managed to also reduce the verticies by 567 and faces by 468, so a pretty good result really. Now all that needs to be done is weathering all the asphalt and concrete. Im still not 100% happy with the dark asphalt texture, in fsx it looks like a pebbled beach, so that may well get redone too. A quick picture, looks very clean and new :o

Thanks to George for pointing out my cockup with the flatten! Next will be finishing the texturing for the first 2 hangars and then working out how to place them in the right location :rotfl:

Matt - Any progress on this airport?

I too am attempting to remake an airport in my area for the first time and am considering going down the custom texture/scenery road but fear the learning curve.
