• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Yes Great Program but ......

Sidney. thank you for your post.

Wing Commander Guy Gibson's Dog was called "Nigger" and I am aware of the implications.

However the reality is the dog had that name. He was killed just prior to the raid leaving Scampton and was buried at the time W/C Gibson was leading the617 Squadron RAF attack on the Moehne Dam in Lancaster AJG. The dog's name was also the code word used by the Lancaster wireless operators for a successful breach of the walls and was used twice in morse code.

The head stone has existed in front of Hangar 2 at Scampton since that time and was included in the scenery following the providers visit to Scampton in 2008. The Raid is very much a part of RAF Bomber Command history.

In the 1954 film of the 1943 Dambuster Raid on the Ruhr Dams in Germany the name was changed for showing in the States.

I hope those notes answer your question.

Attention Don Just a note to say I finally bought some programs yesterday and followed your instructions relating to placing static Ai's with success in FSX. I can now mix SAMM outcomes with Ai's when SAMM does not convert the aircraft correctly (mainly FS2004 payware aircraft).

The movie I intended to make will now be re-invented and "A Display Day at Scampton" will now happen in due course.

Cheers

Glad to hear it, Ross.

BTW, I haven't yet found a FS9 aircraft I couldn't convert successfully. That being said, payware aircraft are sometimes difficult because of the developer's desire to animate everything in a realistic manner. But, with a little investigation and experimentation with the animation variables, I've always found a way. It's mainly a matter of how badly you want the static aircraft and how much time you are prepared to invest getting it.

Good luck with your film,
Don

Thanks Don

As the designer of the program I would expect you to have a far better outcome from what might be troublesome aircraft for others, particularly in FSX.

The Just Flight Lancasters, even the CFS2 versions had exactly the same outcome from SAMM with those whitewall tyres and missing textures that showed as black. Even when used as an Ai the same thing occurred. In addition, in FSX the FS2004 Lancasters had black windows whereas the CFS2 versions had transparent windows. None were usable in a static display.

I have never succeeded in getting the aircraft shadow on the ground in a SAMM conversion so in the film it will be quite obvious which are SAMM and which are Ai's

Here is another ex payware FS2004 Jumbo that had a most interesting result:

It even shows the "power saw" that cut the wings off. The Ardvark Ai was just fine from SAMM.

Actually it was quite disappointing that I gave the link to the source of the Lancaster that converted with U/C up but no one seems to have given me time to try and help in a better outcome. Maybe some did and are not going to admit here they also had the same trouble and could not find a solution.

Cheers

Perhaps if you start a new thread where you ask for some key advice on how to investigate and experiment with the animation variables you might get some insights which allow you to begin to understand what they are about.

The tools are there to be used, and the user's manual is clear in stating that the user can choose to use them for difficult models, but that there would not be any direct developer support in converting stubborn models.

I was involved in the SAMM development testing from the get-go, and while I have a clear understanding of all aspects of static model conversions with SAMM, I have no clue what to do with the animation variables. But there are so many aircraft available that I just didn't need to learn about the animation variables.

You on the other hand, need some specific aircraft converted, and Don has given you the best advice he possibly can, which is to tell you that he has not found an aircraft which cannot be sorted out using the tools provided.

Don't get me wrong, I asked a lot of questions during development, had a thick skull, and was a royal pain in the back for poor Don, and George.
But I have a feeling that if you put your mind to it, and ask questions which show you are determined to succeed, someone will help you to do so.

Cheers
