• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX SP1 will not load?

... In the end, I had to remove all traces of my original install manually, the uninstaller was not enough. I removed my \FSX folder where the game was installed and (as I had saved and re-copied) the Flight Simulator X folder(s) on my C: drive under My documents. There are also hidden FSX folders on the C: drive. If you have ever tried installing the SDK you would know about those as well. They are located in C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX...

That's exactly what I had to do with an older MS sim.

A useful shortcut to the Appdata folder is to type %appdata%\microsoft in the address bar of an Explorer window. Duly entered, the window will now show the Appdata folders for all your MS sims. This works with XP, Vista and Win7 of all flavours and whether you have hidden files and folders visible or not.

Uninstalled and Installed FSX 3 times last night. All afternoon into the night. No progress.

Uninstalled and Reinstalled FSX today, 2 times so far, nothing. Just ran the FSX SP1 update 3 times to see if 'that' would help, alongside of rebooting, testing, rebooting.

Deleted ALL folders, reinstalled (today on the last one) to see if totally clean slate would help. Nope.

I just cant believe this. I cannot believe this....

Hi Lionheart,

Try installing the latest version of MSXML 4.0 (delete any previous versions beforehand). I had an issue installing FSX sometime ago, and after many hours of searching internet etc, I came across this. Hopefully it may solve yours as well. The latest version is on MS web site.

Regards
Darrell.

I wonder if this has anything to do with it. I postponed (this time) putting in the code (after installing) and I was reading that the FSX SP1 is only for 'registered' installations of FSX.

What if it goes online, registers, but has some official 'this isnt official' registry from online at HQ? Another words, they see me installing this thing like 10 times in a week, they must think I am loading it on many computers??? Perhaps sent a 'bogus ok' to the registry system, and thus SP1 will not install? Could this be it?

It half way makes sense to me.

Note on the photo, it says 'SP1' but also has 'Demo' in it, and in the SP1 ReadMe EULA, it states, you must have a 'registered' copy of FSX for SP1 to apply.

Mind you, all my other versions had the code placed in it, (code from Aces when I was a beta tester, this is my RTM copy that MS sent me). When I would click the 'register' button, it would go online, then say 'you are now Registered'. But... Was I? Could I be 'not' registered? Could the new Flight system be kicking back Beta copies for some technical reason?

Im good at conspiracy theories, unfortunately... :(

Roger that. Thanks Darrell.

How does one 'activate' FSX?

I tried clicking on 'activate.exe' in the FSX folder, nada....

Nothing in the menu system.

I tried flying for a very long time (in the ultralight) and that did nothing, no 'activate now' or demo banner sprang up.

I cannot seem to break from Demo mode. Do I need to... (dare I say) uninstall and reinstall again?

Ok... ONly way to activate is to uninstall and reinstall. Done.

Checked on activated install, is base install.

Ran SP1 this time, live 'run' while on internet download, via the online Home Downloads section built into the start window system.

Loaded up Sp1, required reboot. Rebooted. Looked good. 'About' stated it was now SP1 ,as usual. Loaded one of my planes, and it has expanded super sized parts as usual via no SP1 update.

Going to install SP2 now.

To God be the glory.......

Thank you Father, thank you Jesus, thank you Holy Spirit....

On the latest reload, I went through the Start menu / Home screen / Downloads page, and downloaded the SP1 update 'live' via the Run option. It asked to restart the computer which I took as a good thing. I did. It didnt work. The new addon planes still had giant things sticking out of them.

I then did the same thing with the SP2 update, via the online Home screen in FSX, the downloads page, SP2 update. It asked me to turn off FSX, and I did. I had to redownload the SP2 update and I did this one via 'Run' instead of Save. When it finished, I rebooted, though it didnt ask me too.

When I rebooted, I started up FSX. I loaded the ultralight first, all was fine, even a bit smoother. Then loaded my Aerospool Dynamic. PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Brilliantly PERFECT!!! No giant struts sticking out, no pilot under the wing, just PERFECT!

2 weeks.... Like the Tom Hanks movie, money pit. Two weeks.... It was a long 14 days. Thank you Lord.

I had heard, from a friend in the sim world that he needed SP2 to run my planes. I never figured out why. I can only figure perhaps all my WIndows updates 'before' doing the full FSX updates had a cause on this. That is the only difference I can see.

I am sorry I shot down FSX, and I do alot. It is a very 'sensitive' software program that has many bugs. It is the industry fave at the present, so I accept that. I am just so greatful that its running, you cannot imagine. Thank you Jesus for hearing my prayers....

It is most definitely a good idea to develop for SP2/ Acceleration Bill.

I am always baffled by the problems people seem to report with FSX (particularly on a new Windows install) ... but comuters are like that sometimes.

SP2 was a large laep in performance from its predecessors (didn't SP1 just fix a few nosesteering glitches and other anomalies, or was that FS9 SP1? it is so long ago.)

I think in the SP1 with FS9, it only added bridges to the scenery, updated detailed bridges in various countries.

FSX SP1 did a 'lot' of updates, like rear illuminated gauges, etc. I have never had to run the Sp2 update before. This is totally new to me. I had run it in the past and it caused performance issues, but now its running fine. My Windows XP 32bit is fully updated though, so I think 'maybe' that has something to do with it.

Man, when I booted up the Dynamic, and nothing was sticking out of it, I was so happy. At first, I just stared, wondering 'what went wrong', like slight 'shock', lol... A good feeling to have it running right.

Now to get the Unlimited Export bug fixed and my small firm will be back on its rails.
