• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 MSFS Airport Extractor Beta 0.1 - A Little Program to Extract an Airport for Fixing

Hello ! My MSFS 2020 is Microsoft Store. I replaced the original line with E:\MSFS 2020\Official\OneStore\fs-base-genericairports\scenery

I see lots of lines in the command prompt page, but nothing comes out !

Hi Marc,

I just tried running it on my c: drive from:

C:\MSFS Airport Extractor and c:\msfsbglxml

and nothing was written to the directory.

I moved the folders to my e: drive so they don't require admin permission to run and boom it worked.

So I just tried again in my c: drive folder after running the program as administrator and it works as well.

Hello ! The software does not open, whether on the C:\ disk or on the D:\ disk. Whether or not I check the "Run this program as administrator" box, nothing happens !

With Airport2Project.exe I was able to open out of curiosity the airport in stock which I plan to rectify according to what it was in 1950/60

I’m not sure what the issue would be there. It should open a command window and ask you to input the airport ICAO code you want. Just hit midnight here but I’ll record a video tutorial tomorrow. If the program isn’t opening you may need to check antivirus software isn’t hijacking the file and preventing it from launching. It’s a very simple program with only a few lines of code all it does is look for your MSFS scenery folder, saves that to the .ini file and prompts user for the airport code, it looks up which BGL name has the airport in the airport.dat text file then generates the MSFSBgl2XML command to format to extract the airport.

If the program isn’t starting it’s not the program it’s something to do with windows or antivirus stopping it from launching. You may need to right click on the .exe and tell windows to unblock it. If UAC is on too high in windows it is overly aggressive at preventing downloaded things from running.

One other thing is it may have an issue with finding the Microsoft store location to write to the ini which could see it launch and close with an error. I’ll dig up the old source code tomorrow and investigate.

It may be easier for me to port it to a windows program and allow users to define their MSFS install location via settings. I’d have to get ClaudeAI to walk me through porting it. I’m rusty on Visual Studio.

EDIT: if you want I can extract the xml for the airport you’re interested in and send it over to you. Oh and do you have the most recent version of MSFSBgl2XML v1.1? The earlier version doesn’t work only the newer one. It’s in the forums at https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/msfsbglxml-convert-msfs-2020-bgl-files-to-xml.450677/

Hello ! I use ADE2020_Alpha_21/H5 to open Stock airports, and I work with Devmode. It's quite easy.

Yeah no worries. Jon’s work on ADE was a Godsend after Lee Swordy left AFCAD behind. I stopped using ADE over 15 years ago once I started hand coding XML and using Google Earth KML’s to plot out airports. I’ve mostly wanted to properly do up YBAF, YAMB and YBOK but those got shelved while I developed UltimateVFR™.

More a case of I was developing USA wide photoscenery, autogen, water masks and night lighting for FSX and Prepar3D.

Now Jon has moved on. But soon it seems we’ll have the World Airports tool which will likely supersede 3rd party decompilers.

Makes me wonder a few things which I’ll just have to ponder for now.

I've updated the program to now provide both steam and microsoft store versions of the sim. I have noticed however due to changes since I designed the program MSFSBglXml is now unable to extract certain BGL files such as APX15180.bgl and APX15170.bgl which covers KSFO. This could be the issue you also experienced. I'm still interested to track down the issue you were having and knowing the airport would help me track down the problem.

Install MS DotNet Runtime 6.0 to make this app run. I also use ADE, but it's nice to have options.

Link, It doesn't prompt, at least for me.
Copy snagged the link and adding it to the first post...

Hello ! After downloading NET 6.0 Runtime (v6.0.32) - Windows x64 Installer, MSFS Airport Extractor opened a DOS page. I filled in the different ini files
Then I opened MSFS Airport Extraxtor, I put ETSF on the DOS Command, it put Airport extracting.
This opens a bat file which outputs an XML file from the airport (ETSF.xml)

The software works really well !

Hello friends.
I am editing an airport of which MSFS only offers runway.
In principle I tried to open it with ADE, but I reported that LEBZ does not exist in the stock. That is why I had to create it from scratch and I have been able to edit it with the SDK. Well, although the project works, when I charge LEBZ from MSFS, the original runway still appears. I do not know how to eliminate it and I have also tried with the tools APRON, rectangle and rectangle of exclusion without success. I don't know what to do anymore. You have some idea. Thank you.

Hi again:

Apparently something went seriously wrong with LEBZ in MSFS20; it seems to have been covered up with bogus 'land class'. :scratchch

The airport does, however, exist in FSX:

It is likely a type of Exclude Polygon (not Rectangle) is required, but we need to have a look at the actual airport coding used.

It would probably be best to open a new thread with a quote of your post above at:

In your post, attach or link to a ZIP file containing your MSFS Project folder chain and compiled Package, perhaps we can help.

UPDATE: Apparently "Paratechno" moved his post into a separate thread ...here:
