• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Best version of 3ds Max for MSFS development, also Windows 11 compatibility?

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, the Indie license is the way to go; I have an older version of Max registered to myself, but unfortunately it's no longer supported (either by MS or Autodesk). Judging from your comments, Max 2019/20 are still the best as regards MSFS tools. I presume you model in...

Are you using 3ds Max on Win 11, and if so which version and how's your experience with it? Thanks.

Best version of 3ds Max for MSFS development, also Windows 11 compatibility?

Couple of quick Qs: Is it still the case that Max 2019/20 are the best options in terms of full MSFS tool functionality? Seems that way from what I can tell, but just checking that the SDK info is still valid/up to date. Additionally, am contemplating updating to Win 11… Prob not the best idea...

Post your developer experiences with Windows 11 here

Ah, thanks all the same. Looks like the only way I'll find out about Max at this rate is just to try it and see... EDIT: Opened a new thread in the 3ds Max section... One last try.

Post your developer experiences with Windows 11 here

Hi, Thinking about upgrading to Win 11 myself, but a little concerned as to 3ds Max functionality (particularly as I have had some issues in the past and AFAIK Max 2019 is still the recommended version). Which version of Max are you running, and have you encountered any issues to date? I...

MSFS20 MSFS (2020): Which version (MS Store/Steam) from a developer standpoint?

Thanks for the reply, Dale. As said, I'm not a console guy myself; I'm just looking ahead to future testing. As far as I can tell, MSFS is/will be a 'Play Anywhere' title, which means only one license is required to play on both PC and Xbox (presumably not simultaneously) - provided the...

MSFS20 MSFS (2020): Which version (MS Store/Steam) from a developer standpoint?

Thanks for the info, guys. If it was a 'normal' game, I'd definitely go with Steam, but as a flight sim and development platform, I kind of like the idea of it being separate from my Games Library. Thanks for clarifying the MS Store install structure, Dale. I will be placing MSFS on its own...

MSFS20 MSFS (2020): Which version (MS Store/Steam) from a developer standpoint?

Hi guys, Just wondering which (if either) is best, specifically from an aircraft developer/SDK point of view? I'm a frequent Steam user, but normally purchase FS titles with their own DLC systems separately (IL-2 & DCS for e.g.). I like to have access to the installation folder and choose...

    3ds Max 2008/Windows 10 (licence error)

Thanks, Tom. Well it's been working the last couple of days anyway. Funnily enough I forgot to run it as admin when putting in the current activation code so got an error that it hadn't written correctly to the registry (it had done so previously so that's not the issue). I am currently running...

    3ds Max 2008/Windows 10 (licence error)

Thanks very much for the reply, Tom! *Huge* relief to know that it does still work and that the problem isn't unresolvable. Both times I've got a new activation key and discussed the issue with Autodesk's customer service dept I was reminded that it's not officially supported, with one agent...

    3ds Max 2008/Windows 10 (licence error)

Hi guys, Just moved over to Windows 10 (from 7) and am using 3ds Max 2008. Initially it seemed to work fine, but the licence keeps failing with a reactivation attempt throwing up the "Activation limit exceeded" error. Autodesk can then give me a new code (by speaking to someone) which seems...

    3ds Max 2008/Photoshop CS5 + Win 10?

Sorry to bring this one back from the dead... ...but was wondering - is this still the case in 2019, i.e. Max 2008 all good with Win 10? For one reason and another I wasn't able to upgrade years ago when I started this thread, but I am about to now. Thanks.

    3ds Max 2008/Photoshop CS5 + Win 10?

Thanks again for the update Tom. All sounds pretty good then for Max 2008 and Win 10. The disabling of Aero (or whatever the Win 10 equivalent is) isn't a big deal, as you say that's how it is under 7 anyway. Was just wondering as it is a *little* annoying ;). One last thing; how are you able...

    3ds Max 2008/Photoshop CS5 + Win 10?

That sounds pretty good Tom. I do have some more Qs though, sorry... When you say 'other dialogues' do you mean anything in Max, such as the 'Isolated Selection' box or the pop-up from cloning an object? You simply ran Max in Win 7 compatibility mode and these were fixed? No other errors...

    3ds Max 2008/Photoshop CS5 + Win 10?

Thanks for the info there Paul. The open file issue sounds like an annoyance that can be worked around, but the quad menu would be a killer (I use it all the time). @Tom, if you get the chance over the next few days would you be able to see if you can replicate either of these two issues with...
