• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v4 Ground poly base image vs ground poly airport

This is the tutorial I was referring to: https://library.avsim.net/file/140539-make-photo-real-ground-textures It's framed around SBX, but the principles apply equally to FSET. Using FSET 2.1 and Virtual Earth as the image source, I just downloaded a 22Gb image of the airfield (4.1km x 2.5km)...

P3D v4 Ground poly base image vs ground poly airport

That’s a great point, Gary - absolutely no point in doing any photo-real outside the airfield. Don’s GP editor inside ADE is perfectly capable of making the polys needed, but ADE uses vertical separation to try and make all the layers visible. It’s worth using MCX to apply Z-bias so that all...

P3D v4 Ground poly base image vs ground poly airport

From my experience, an image of that pixel count for an area of that size is pretty low resolution, even though the file size will be quite large (depending on the quality you selected). You could have picked a smaller airfield as a learning project! However, FSET will certainly cope with a...

    P3D v5 Open links recurring

The 'arrow sticking out of a node' issue normally means that two or more nodes are superimposed. You have to make sure that both (or more, if there are more) are removed before replacing. It may be easier to draw the taxiway between two unaffected nodes then add a node where the corrupted one...

Sikorsky H-19 Chickasaw, Westland Whirlwind and Westland Wessex for MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024

My first ever helicopter flight was in a Whirlwind HAR10 at RAF Valley in 1969. We lost the engine shortly after takeoff and the pilot (a QHI from SARTU) autorotated us back to the ground. The landing was rough, but we all walked away from it. In my later RAF flying career, I never trusted...

Hi Arno - trying to access the latest MCX and I've been getting a 504 at the site for the last hour and a half.

    FSX AI Flightplans

OK, here we go. The first thing is that you have to make sure that traffic is visible in FSX. Go into the Options menu and ensure that the sliders for Airline and GA traffic (and vehicles and ships if you want them) are turned up to max. You can turn them down later if this setting loads your...

    FSX AI Flightplans

Tom, it’s good that you’ve had a go. All you have to do is write the flight plan. You don’t have to pre-populate the airport list. Your custom airfield ICAO code may not be recognised by AIFP, but it will prompt you to enter the position details and then you’re good to go. It’s early and I’m not...

    FSX AI Flightplans

P3D is a more complex and capable variant of FSX, so it takes more resources. P3Dv5 or v6 (the current version) is very much a system hog, and will be no more likely to give a good result on a low-end computer than MSFS24 will - indeed, it may be argued that MSFS24 is better optimised than...

    FSX AI Flightplans

FSX (and its derivatives) was explicitly written to allow user modification, and an entire amateur and professional industry has developed to do just that. Most have moved on to MSFS20, MSFS24 and X-Plane, but there's still a huge number invested in FSX and its predecessor, FS9, as well as its...

    FSX AI Flightplans

AIFP is not difficult. But traffic in FS9/FSX/P3D is a huge subject - as it covers the entire globe and up to 50k airfields, you would expect it to be huge. If you really lack the ability to study and understand the tools made available to you (for free) to manipulate the in-sim traffic, then...

Forcing AI planes to park at parking spots.

Ah, I'm afraid I can't improve upon Chris's suggestion for bulk alterations! ADE will only deal with one airport at a time.

Forcing AI planes to park at parking spots.

In Settings\Options in ADE, there is a tab 'Parking'. You can preset all of the different parking radii. This screenshot shows the default numbers, but they can be anything you want...

Forcing AI planes to park at parking spots.

Are you creating a ‘retro’ world? The reference to DC3s is interesting! One way of sorting it out - although this would be one airfield at a time - is up set up ADE to use default parking spot sizes to suit your particular traffic needs, and then import the offending AFCADs and swap out the...
