• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Creating an Accurate Air Conditioning Duct Pressure Model

I'm assuming that the formulas that fit your needs are highly specialized and so really only a person who's designed the 747-200 or a person with a 747-200 doing active tests can give you a solid, 100% accurate answer. I think the main problem is that duct pressure (in terms of simulation and...

    MSFS20 Cockpit Env map

If I remember correctly, there isn't any way to get a custom environment or cube map for objects using the glass material type as described in the SDK under Glass Parameters. For standard materials all reflections are calculated using screen space reflections meaning that an environment map is...

3DS Max [TIP] Fast topology in 3ds Max

Yes, that is the idea. Of course, you can change the sub division count in the Retopology. I use 5000 as an example, but it indeed can go to as low as 1000. However, for those intending a low poly approach, I don't recommend anything lower than 2000 for organic or anything lower than 1000 for...

3DS Max [TIP] Fast Normal correction with 3ds Max

Hi all, this is my 3rd tip for you guys. this tip will help fix distorted normals for objects, especially as a result of boolean modifiers, retopology, or subdivision. Intro Sometimes when modelling both hard surface and organic models, objects can have distorted shading effects despite the...

[TIP] Creating realistic shadows and AO by rendering

I would also like to mention this: most rendering engines also have an "AO Map" render, but this is (in my opinion) all too flat to be useful. Left is AO Map, right is AO + GI Map.

[TIP] Creating realistic shadows and AO by rendering

Hi all, I just wanted to share my technique for creating realistic shadows and AO. This is something I notice that many new developers either struggle with or don't do at all, which is a shame since this can really help make your textures go to the next level. Intro First, I want to explain AO...

3DS Max [TIP] Fast topology in 3ds Max

Hi all, I just wanted to share this feature within Max that I think will greatly speed up workflows for organic modelling, that is objects that aren't hard surfaced. This tip is for those who aren't experienced in Max or are unaware of how to use this modifier. Intro To preface, these modifiers...

MSFS20 Modifying 3D Virtual Cockpits in MSFS

Thanks Rich and Arno. I'd assume that since I was modifying an already packaged aircraft, it would make more sense just to overwrite the model with my edited model, but it does appear that this packaging system is required to make such changes.

MSFS20 Modifying 3D Virtual Cockpits in MSFS

Thanks Arno, I wasn't really sure/aware of how important the packaging system is in MSFS; I'm too used to the drag 'n drop philosophy. However, do I open the already packaged addon as a package in DevMode or do I have to create a new separate package for the modifications I've done only?

MSFS20 Modifying 3D Virtual Cockpits in MSFS

I've noticed that even attaching an untextured cube with a white material inside the cockpit also causes the sim to reject the model, as well as deleting any component (important or not) causes the sim to also reject the entire model. However, if I open the model in MCX and then re-export...

MSFS20 Modifying 3D Virtual Cockpits in MSFS

Hey ya'll, So I'd like to add some objects for some of the default MSFS aircraft as well as 3rd party aircraft virtual cockpits, but it's proven to be a bit of a pain. For reference, for FSX/ESP, VC models can easily be added new features by creating your model feature in Max, exporting it as...

    Basic dynamic light gauge?

While I do get the idea, what I don't really get is the syntax, or more specifically, how to actually write the gauge. What would the syntax be to the hide attachpoints and display one?

    Basic dynamic light gauge?

Hi all, I've been trying to delve into the world of creating dynamic lights for aircraft. I know there's the FSLabs tool, but I want to make it more streamlined by making a basic light control gauge. Most other developers (FSLabs, Leonardo, PMDG, QW, etc) all reference some gauge in the...
