• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

    More UV mapping bewilderment...HOW??

I was examining Carenado's Phenom 100 textures and realized that its fuselage is mapped almost the same way as JRollon's CRJ-200 (broken into sections and gracefully flattened out to get that "squashed" look, which I never figured out how to do before) so apparently this is a fairly common...

P3D v2 Model Appears Checkered after Ambient Occlusion?

The exact same thing happens to my rendered AO maps when I have accidentally duplicated parts of mesh. I welded and welded and welded but the problem just wouldn't resolve itself...So I went into element mode and it turned out that I had a clone of the object buried in its parent mesh. It can be...

    P3D v2 Bombardier Challenger 605

No single paint job is out of the question, and your fathers' is certainly no exception. I plan to make as many paints as possible for this bird and also have a PSD paint kit bundled in the package upon release. Speaking of release...I mentioned before that there would be news in "early...

can't this be done it one cut?

You need to be in either polygon or element selection mode to do this...Detaching vertices won't carry the geometry that you want with them. The cutter operation should automatically select the polys for you, so just detach them into their own object.

    P3D v2 Bombardier Challenger 605

Here's a close-to-final render of the 605, just in time for Christmas! The entire model is about 95% complete right now, with only a few minor details to add like probes and those pesky flap segments. I am MUCH happier with the way this model turned out than the last in almost every aspect...

    FSX Cessna Citation XLS+

Amazing work! :D Keep the bizjets a-comin'!

    my blender 3d adventures!

Blender really is an amazing piece of software. The first cockpit that I made was totally done in Blender; the only reason it didn't turn out exactly the way I wanted it to was due to a lack of reference...So I restarted. I think you will enjoy crafting the DC-8 cockpit in its welcoming UI...

    Oh, The Bounty of Modeling

Now, is that ship going to be used for discovering another continent or kidnapping British sailors for ransom? It actually does look impressive though. Gotta love those old, old wooden ships.

    Xplane 10/FSX - Modelling Materials?

For FSX, install the Prepar3D SDK and read the documentation. It explains everything in regards to material protocol for use in the sim. For X-Plane, you will need to export your 3ds Max model into Blender or AC3D and assign materials there. I'm really not too familiar with X-Plane's material...

    FSXA Render to texture

Don't use "Unfold Mapping" on a fuselage. Ever. I had tried it multiple times in the past and got the same dissatisfying result every time. Only unfold low-poly parts that already have seams cut. The best method I can think of mapping like the default 737 is to use Cylindrical mapping. Pay...

    P3D v2 Bombardier Challenger 605

In case anyone is wondering, this model is still chugging along...Slowly, but surely. The polygon count is approaching 150,000 at this point, and there are still some very detailed parts that need to be crafted. So why am I letting it go this high, even after optimizing my previous model by...

FSX how to make the belly?

There are probably a billion different ways to do this, and I swear that I've tried at least 50. What I did on my Challenger (which I failed to do on the first attempt, resulting in an ugly wing root) was actually craft the section as a separate mesh from the fuselage itself. The leading edge of...

    P3D v2 Bombardier Challenger 605

The systems are going to be as advanced as I can make them, but keep in mind that this will be my first time programming anything, so that really isn't saying much as of now. But believe me, I will try my best to model these systems better than the default planes. It will just take some time. If...

DT Interviews Autodesk About Phasing Out Perpetual Licenses

Yep, education is outrageous here in the U.S. of A. It's too bad we can't take a hint from Germany, because all of their universities are tuition-free. I honestly believe that moving to Germany and buying a decent house would cost less than attending a lot of universities around here...But...

DT Interviews Autodesk About Phasing Out Perpetual Licenses

I realize that...But since Maya LT only costs $30 per month, a year's total of subscription payments would be less than half the price of the original product. At least that's a better value than Max's subscription program offers. In reality though, Blender just seems more practical for most...

DT Interviews Autodesk About Phasing Out Perpetual Licenses

Pardon me if I'm wrong, but doesn't MCX have the ability to automatically parse animations and AttachPoints from object names? I believe that is how modelers exported from Blender before those ingenious Blender2FSX scripts were released to do this directly. If that's true, couldn't it read...

DT Interviews Autodesk About Phasing Out Perpetual Licenses

If I wasn't blessed with a school that provides free student licenses for Autodesk products, I would be using Blender right now, no questions asked. There isn't one thing (in my experience) that Blender cannot do while Max can. One of the only reasons I use Max primarily is because of its more...

    Experimenting with new Modelling technique

...It's only too many polys when a 1mm threshold becomes too large to mass-weld vertices on your model. :yikes: If that doesn't happen, go for the seams.

    P3D v2 Bombardier Challenger 605

Maybe this ought to give a clue toward release...If I remember correctly, I was in this stage precisely 1 year ago. So if I have made 0% progress in a year, then it will never be released! Muahahahaha! :stirthepo Seriously though, besides the main panel and center console that are being reused...
