• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

    FSXA Black panel in VC

Bill When you say "real" $pan.jpeg are you saying the file must exist, but it can be in the Gmax directory same as the model? At present i have created a new blank $Klondike.jpeg in the same directory as my Gmax file and everything works fine. But with only that file, my gauges are on a plain...

FSX A few question to start on aircraft design

Tom I have discovered this with a few trials an error. You are correct that for exporting, the setup can be what I want. But up to now, for importing DXF files, I needed to set the system units and the setup units to inches. Which means that when I export, I need to close gamx, reopen and set...

    FSXA Black panel in VC

Thank you Tom My background now appears behind my gauges. They don't match at the present, but at least I can see it. One thing still puzzles me. I need one file with a $xxx.jpeg(or .psd or .dds) and one file just xxx.bmp. the xxx.bmp has the background for the panel. What actually needs to me...

    FSXA Explain "hierarchies"

It made to the eater about 4 or 5 times Its powered by a 12 electric motor for a tire pump. I was also into RC boats many years ago, but the prop gears on the outboard gas engine I had at the time stripped and they were shelved. My dream would have been to build the full size "Klondike" but...

    FSXA Explain "hierarchies"

Johnman I am working Gmax with the FSX gamepack and exporting for FSX. I have exported many times up to now. Almost at every step of the way. You can see were I am at in my other post "Progress on boat modeling". Up to now every thing is on the same level, no hierarchy. Most of cabin was...

    FSXA Explain "hierarchies"

Thank you Johnman No problem following instruction. I also found where the dummy node command is. I wish Autodesk would have had a better user manual for Gmax. Michel

    FSXA Explain "hierarchies"

Thank for that explanation Bill I my other modeling program, I can break up my project into separate "Sequence" or "zone" that I can turn on or off. So I understand what you are talking about. Michel

    FSXA Explain "hierarchies"

Johnman If you are talking about exercise 11 and 12 of Milton's C162, I had a look at it and I would not say it is well explained but I think I have get the drift. But looking at that tutorial, it appears I would be using the "parent-child" commands in Gmax. In my case, this might come in useful...

    FSXA Explain "hierarchies"

In a previous post, I was told I should get familiar with SDK literature. That it might provide me with useful information. In the past, I have referenced these to "tweak" some of my plane's pop up panels (shift x) to get what I wanted. This was simple enough. Before starting on my boat, I...

    FSXA Black panel in VC

OK folks, partial success I renamed my panel background $Klondike.jpeg, and my material VCPanel. Then, mapped the $Klondike as instructed above in my VCPanel material. I can now see my gauges, but I can/t see the jpeg background. I have tried keeping background file as .bmp and changing to...

    FSXA Black panel in VC

N2056 I apologize if I seemed a bit rude earlier, but I was rushing trying to get a response out while in the middle of something else. I have been going thru the SDK for quite a few things, and sometimes it seems to be written for the more experience modeler, not the first timers like me...

    FSXA Black panel in VC

I have been looking at the "SDK Overview" for any titles that might point me to VC material set up and I can't find anything. I have looked at "FSX Materials" and could not see anything on VC material. I have looked under "Panel Configuration file" and can't find anything there also. If you...

N2056 I gather that clicking this icon to "on", I should see my BMP file in that viewport above the texture name. Well!!! NO GO. Michel

    FSXA Black panel in VC

Tom I have gone to check my texture setup and I can't see what you are talking about, unless the texture file has to have a BMP file associated with in under the "detail map" entry under the "other texture information" To get a clearer picture of where my problem might be, I am attaching a...

    FSXA Black panel in VC

Thank you I just checked a few different planes and they do fallow that rule. But this is not explained in the SDK "Panel configuration" literature. I am assuming this only applies to VC windows, and not the other windows (windowXX). I just tried changing widow size to either 256,256 or...

    FSXA Black panel in VC

Bill I do realize that the "$Klondike" texture is not a file in FSX but a texture created in the Gmax model. Since this is my first initiation at creating a "texture" I was expecting part of my problem to be in there. I have gone back into my texture setup and found the "aircraft Material...

    FSXA Black panel in VC

So I have looked at Milton's tutorials to create my panel. This is where I am at: I created a polygon just above my gauge console and named it "planar". I have created a texture called $Klondike and applied it to my polygon "planar". I created a .bmp file starting from the Ultra Lite bmp file...
