• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

    FSEarthTiles skipping tiles

I opened FSEarthTiles.ini and set SkipAllWaterTiles to "No" and unchecked create water masks for this job and so far it seems to be working so far. But FSET has done a pretty good job until now and I'm curious why this one area has given me issues.

    FSEarthTiles skipping tiles

I've never run into problems before but suddenly FSET is skipping eight out of nine tiles in southern Nevada, saying it's entirely water. If anyone has ever been north of Las Vegas this is not the case. Groom Lake/Area 51 is northwest of where I'm working and FSET created scenery for that...

    Are USGS elevation maps stretched?

    Ok thanks Matthias!

    Are USGS elevation maps stretched?

And loading the grid in FSET it measures 47x60 nautical miles.

    Are USGS elevation maps stretched?

I remember the process for making flight simulator terrain mesh from USGS DEMs, having to reproject them to WGS84. But I noticed when working with the geotiff in QGIS that a 38-degree north map was a perfect square (10,812x10,812). On the National Map viewer download page the tile I am working...

MSFS20 Global AI Ship Traffic FSX, P3D and MSFS2020

Looks glorious and I'll have to dust off MSFS to check this out! What is the most recent version for us P3D users in case I missed an update or two?

P3D v5 Fun with TIN files

I think THIS is the one thing I've been missing! I always work with EPSG:4326. So everything gets converted to 3857 for 3D work, then export to 4326 for compiling into the sim. I made custom terrain mesh for the entire United States so if I removed the airport flatten and made the runway...

P3D v5 Fun with TIN files

Three years later I am just as stuck on this project... I have a digital elevation map that I want to turn into a 3D model where I can either put imagery over it or create polygons with textures for the paint. I can make contours, turn those into points, those into triangles. The data is in...

P3D v5 Power lines close to airport

I followed along with the example from the manual and realized that the telephone poles become autogen if you follow the process and not scenery objects like I thought they were. Since millions of trees and buildings aren't much of a factor, a few more poles wouldn't be either. Just going with...

P3D v4 Helo blade slap sounds

I think the manual states it only occurs in certain situations.

P3D v5 Power lines close to airport

"Power=minor_line," spread 100m apart, only got me 15,000 poles for the entire state of Nevada -- if replacing "powertower" with "telephonepole" in the script even works since I guessed at that. So I think I'll try your suggestion of poles along the roads. To keep there from being too many is...

P3D v5 Power lines close to airport

I like your idea, but I have an old computer and all those poles would overwhelm it. You did lead me to realizing "power=minor_line" would work a lot better since I already have high-voltage lines for the whole United States from a national database. Those I set up with "Utility 2" GUID. What do...

P3D v5 Power lines close to airport

I would like to put in telephone poles along power lines that are within a mile of airports. This seems like it would be easy: tell ScenProc to look for "aeroway=aerodrome" polygons and do a LineToPoint for "power=line," but filtering through the osm.pbf file's power line tags is not something I...

P3D v4 Helo blade slap sounds

Only helicopter I have heard producing the blade slap in P3D is Milviz UH-1 (freeware). Maybe you could reverse engineer how they got that to work.

Best way to paint runways for P3D in 2024?

That web platform does sound familiar. My son showed me how to build a model and that's all I thought there was to it. By the time I saw your message I already installed 2017 from Archive.org so keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't fry my computer with popups and malware.

Best way to paint runways for P3D in 2024?

Great news. I thought Sketchup required a paid account, and my two oldest kids no longer have one since they graduated high school. I'll see about downloading one the Sketchup versions you mention and report back. :)

    P3D v5 Shp2Vec no longer working? [SOLVED]

I re-downloaded version 4's SDK and linked ScenProc to that Shp2Vec and it is working perfectly now thanks!

    P3D v5 Shp2Vec no longer working? [SOLVED]

A couple years ago I had to stop creating custom water polygons because I couldn't get Shp2Vec to work any more with ScenProc. Tried v4, v5, and v6's tools and none would work. Now I am working with power lines and ran into the same problem. Does anyone know of a good way to get Shp2Vec to work...

P3D v5 Possible to detect size of water tank via texture filter?

I had to search for "cluster" in the manual. Is that part of the Terrain Filter Editor's "KMeans?" That is currently way beyond my skill level, and my plan was to randomly assign a big tank and a small tank. :) Interested to hear whether you try it and come up with anything, because it is fun...
