• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v4 Helo blade slap sounds

I recently moved from FSX-SE to P3D v4.5 and I am really enjoying the new (to me) sim. However, I ran into an issue today that I hope someone here can help with.

For years I have used the old 'BladeslapSND' gauge on my FSX helicopters for a more realistic sound when the rotor is under stress (tight turns, slowing down, landing, etc.) I tried putting it into P3d but it doesn't appear to work as it interfaces with the DSD FSX sound gauge. I have been playing around with the various gauge config files and settings (sound and panel) trying to get it to work with the DSD P3D 64 bit sound gauge but not had any luck!

Does anyone know:
1. How to get it to work or if there is an equivalent available for 64-bit P3D?
2. Can you use the DSD FSX sound gauge in P3D as well as the DSD 64-bit sound gauge (the latter is already being used by some of my other add-ons)?

Any help would be appreciated.

The answer is no, it won't work. BladeslapSND is a gauge that is already driving a range of sounds, so effectively you are trying to use a a gauge to drive a gauge. You may be able to use Doug's sound gauge to drive one sound only but to get the full range of BladeslapSND's abilities someone will need to create a new gauge.

The .ini file just calls some of Doug's modules so in theory it could be editable but I guess the real culprit is the 'dsd_fsx_xml_sound.gau' as 64-bit P3D fails to recognize any .gau gauge. :(

Damn, that's a pity as I used to really like that effect!

Only helicopter I have heard producing the blade slap in P3D is Milviz UH-1 (freeware). Maybe you could reverse engineer how they got that to work.

Rename it to .dll - that all a .gau file is - a .dll by another name.

I just renamed 'dsd_fsx_xml_sound.gau' to ''dsd_fsx_xml_sound.dll' and checked that all the other requirements are met but I still get no blade slap sound.

Okay; I think you may be out of luck then. I thought you were dealing with the 64-bit P3D gauge when I suggested that you rename it; the FSX one is resolutely 32-bit.
