• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

SketchUp Req. input on design options - raised and lower panels - textures or modelled?

Thanks. I have grouped the hangar so that I easily can assign it one color. I suddenly remembered that i can adjust the texture size within substancepainter, disregarding the panels size when the UV-editing. That is possible by not using UV related texturing, but rather assign a texture based on...

SketchUp Req. input on design options - raised and lower panels - textures or modelled?

Thanks Gary. I used the extrusion tool to extrude multiple panels outwards. Happy with the result, but I am a bit unsure on how to manage the UV to not make the faces too small for texturing in detail 🤔

SketchUp Req. input on design options - raised and lower panels - textures or modelled?

Thanks for your input Christian. I really appreciate it. I agree that it looks very good indeed. I do not have an issue doing the work now with learning the different "shortcuts" of Sketchup with repeated work. In that regard I have only been worried about performance and looks, but if you do...

SketchUp Req. input on design options - raised and lower panels - textures or modelled?

I have a couple of reference images to work from, and I live relatively close by so I hope this will be a good one. Seasonal snow is something very interesting to me. However I have yet to explore this option yet due to the xml.editing. I was thinking either to model the building with the...

SketchUp Req. input on design options - raised and lower panels - textures or modelled?

Hello. I need some advice on my approach towards modelling a building with raised and lowered horizontal panels in regards to performance and practical use. In my previous object the panels were directed vertically so I could easily use a texture to mimic the wall. However on this one the edges...

    Requesting input regarding project size

Looking through the xml-files show no indication of errors using norwegian letters. It's a regular "A". 🤔 hmmm. The next logical reasons is indeed Loki ;) I think I will go for that approach. It has proven easy to adjust on the fly earlier. I am a bit uncertain if I am doing anything wrong...

    Requesting input regarding project size

I am using an english and norwegian keyboard layout. It is very strange to me that I need to consider using a north american one because it cannot read the "A" properly? But if this is an issue which shows for anyone but Norwegians I would probably need to adapt.... I am failing to...

    Requesting input regarding project size

I am a bit curious about this issue. From what I can see, I have been using "Alesund" all the way through the project due to the potential issue you mention. I also had a version with "Aalesund", but landed on the first example. Hmmm.... I would be happy tro try it out. However I am unsure...

    Requesting input regarding project size

I would agree with you regarding ChatGPT. However, it has been proven quite useful for troubleshooting issues I've had. And it is surprisingly effective when I need something technical. As an example it helped me make a script which reduced the texture size of the FSLTL AI traffic package...

    Requesting input regarding project size

Thanks gary. That is quite the extensive testing! :) And yes, I like the puddle-details as well. I really like the possibilities substancepainter gives with detailing. When referring to the "Blue objects", do you mean the building walls I referred to above? I may have a found an easy solution...

    Requesting input regarding project size

Thanks. I believe this is the way. I have "discussed" this issue with ChatGPT which points to such a solution. What it suggests is to export the model from substancepainter with texture set at 2k while batch adjusting the normal maps using GIMP+BIMP plugin. I guess I will try this approach...

    Requesting input regarding project size

You are adressing some issues that I do not quite understand. I believe I can narrow my questions down a bit more specifically by asking if there is something in my workflow that is unessesary to include. When looking at one of the texture set that is 2k, I see multiple additional texture files...

    Requesting input regarding project size

I am not sure. May it be due to the baking process in Substance painter? When starting that process I bake in 4k since I was under the impression that the resolution could be adjusted later on and before exporting. But I am not sure...

    Requesting input regarding project size

Hello. I request some direct input and feedback regarding my projects and their size. My latest project is the ENAX helibase: https://flightsim.to/addon/106573/enax-alesund-hospital-helibase. My issue is that the project size when creating the project withing msfs is below 1GB. When the...

    ENAX - Ålesund hospital helibase

Thank you. However, I believe I need to test emissive lights a bit more to make a better result. Currently I think they are too bright, but I do not want them too dark either.

    ENAX - Ålesund hospital helibase

Thank you for the comment Gary! Yes, the hospital wall are made of shiny metal panels. I had to go back and forth finding a solution on how to texture it due to resolution but I believe the end result is quite close to how it actually looks. The colors might be a bit off though as the shinyness...

    ENAX - Ålesund hospital helibase

Hello. I present my newest project, the Ålesund hospital helibase, ICAO ENAX. The helibase is located close to the city of Ålesund on the western coast of norway, and is practically placed close to the sea and the norwegian alps. Note: The scenery has been created using a newly discovered...

MSFS20 Imported projected mesh is misaligned and not showing the whole object

Thanks Gary for taking the time providing the information above. I've tested this abit further and it seems the issue is solved by raising the textured face above the ground. I've had success so far by raising it 1m/3ft.

MSFS20 Imported projected mesh is misaligned and not showing the whole object

Thanks for your input. I tried both with a flatten, and adjusting the terrain otherwise. Nothing worked. However, I adjusted the height of the original textured face a bit up, and now it shows fine👍

MSFS20 Imported projected mesh is misaligned and not showing the whole object

Hello. I am having an issue with placing projected mesh into my scenery. The intent is to create detailed textured faces which is imported into the sim as a ground texture. I've partially managed to do this, but I am not entirely successful. The current issue is that the object used as mesh is...
