• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

    Strange Cliffs

Hi! Hope someone can help me out with this problem. I've created an area around Iceland - started by excluding all default vector scenery, creating a big water polygon, making holes for the landmasses, creating airport polygons etc. The attachment image shows what happens in FSX when I...

    Airport Flattens

I know that this helps you a lot, but since the data use is under copyright, it's not possible until I get the okay from the data provider, which is what I'm waiting for. Thanks for your understanding, Bernd

    Airport Flattens

Hi! Actually you're right, it's not the flatten that seems to be gone but rather the grass polygon that covers the airport region as well as the autogen exclusion polygons. However, it's still not clear, because I thought that it is ONE polygon GUID that does all three (flatten, grass...

    Airport Flattens

Hi! Here's what I did: .) Create exclude polygons (rectangular, exactly the size of the CVX-BGL I want to "replace") for all hydros, shorelines and roads / railroads. No "exclude all" and no "exclude airport flattens". .) Created a hydro polygon covering the same area (rectangular) .)...

    Airport Flattens

Hi! Thanks for your answer. What I did was keeping the original BGL as it is and make my own above it. However, I did NOT include any flatten excludes in my own BGL, but the original ones don't show up any more. My airports are full of autogen objects and have no grass texture below them...

    FSX UUID in shapefile DBF

Hi! I usually start from 1 and count up. Never tried what happens, when it's not unique! Bernd

    Airport Flattens

Hello! Got a specific question about airport flattens: Say I want to replace a complete CVX of FSX and replace it with my own CVX that contains all the vector data for that region. Of course, I would also have to rebuild the aerodrome flatten polygons again, because they're also stored in the...

    PolygonHole

Thanks for your input. I have already written a SHP-Wrapper in .NET, so that I can easily read and write shapefiles, so technically there's no problem. I read somewhere else on the forum that the best way to adjust the landpolygons is to create a water polygon and define the land polygons as...

    PolygonHole

Hi folks! Don't know if this is the right sub-forum for my question, but here it is: On the forums I've read a few threads about creating islands by using a "polygon hole"; from what I understand this means, that you basically have a big water area where the islands are "holes" in this water...

    Terrain Data Exclusion

Hi folks! I'm quite new to scenery development and have a question regarding the exclusion of terrain data in FSX. I know that all vector data is split up in QMID cells. But how do I know the coordinates of each of these cells? I tried to find out by using tmfviewer, but I don't know what...

    Shp2Vec with Oceans

Hi! That was it, the fields Texture, SlopeX and SlopeY were missing. How Shp2Vec doesn't complain about missing attributes but it keeps processing the file forever. After 7 hours I just cancelled it, because it seemed to do nothing. Is there any way to check if it actually does...

    Shp2Vec with Oceans

Hi! Thanks for your answer, but my DBF file contains two columns (UUID which is just a unique guid for each polygon and GUID that represents the water poly guid from FSX). However, Shp2Vec complains "attribute field missing". Does the shapefile have these "fields" too? Do I have to...

    Shp2Vec with Oceans

Hi friends! Some may remember my thread about importing coastlines into FSX and what to do to accomplish this task. After a few e-mails and many hours spending in trying different approches, I've come to the following result: I now do have a shapefile that contains one polygon covering...

    Coastlines

Hi! Thanks for your replies. Unfortunately all of you have different meanings on what is gonna work and what not. The SDK doesn't provide good information on that topic, as I said. Maybe some of you can comment my approach and tell me if it's gonna work and if not why and what...

    Coastlines

Hi! Guess that's impossible in my case because I can't tag it with an appropriate landclass since I don't convert one single island manually but the whole world automatically. But maybe I misunderstood something... Thanks for your advices! Bernd

    Coastlines

Hi! That's exactly what I need. Unfortunately I am not an experienced scenery designer; I'd be really happy if you could provide more detailed information on what software I should use what steps I have to do to accomplish this task. Are these assumptions correct? .) Make a big water...

    Coastlines

Hi! Yeah, but I have a database of worldwide land-polys and editing them one by one isn't what I want. SBuilderX also has a file size limitation. But you're idea sounds intereseting, how should I proceed? I have a file of LANDPOLYGONs not water polygons, so I somehow have to "invert"...

    Coastlines

Hi! Thanks, that helped a lot! I'll purchase ArcGIS - which edition do I need? Do you have experience with ArcGIS? If yes, it would be great if you could help me a bit out with my task ('cos I haven't used this software before). Bernd

    Coastlines

Hi! Thanks for your help. Guess I got it: is it corret, that if I transform my "land polygons" to "water polygons" it would be much easier for the thing I'm trying to do? That's gonna be a lot of work... any ideas of how to "invert" a shapefile polygon? Thanks, Bernd
