• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

3D Studio Max

Hey.

3D Studio MAX and FSX, is this possible?
I ahve been using FS Design Studio from Abacus, but think it would be better with a program such as Max, because then I can use my creations in many different games and presentations as Max offers more options in terms of file formats.

So my questions is:

Does 3D Studio Max work with FSX/FS2004/XPLANE modeling?
I am not 100% sure, but would think so, as long as I can export to an x file.

Please share if you know the answer to my questions.
Would be bad to spend on a program such as Max, and not being able to use it for flight simulation projects.

I'm still learning but here's what I've discovered so far:

- With FSX SP2 + Acceleration SDK, you can use 3ds max 7,8,9, and 2008 32 bit with full ACES Tools support. (may be able to use max 2009 32 bit as well, not sure)

- I don't believe there is any support for the newest 3ds max ver. 2010.

- With the Pandasoft.X 3ds max exporter plugin, you should be able to export to FS2004 (something I'm trying to do with animated scenery objects).

That's about all I got regarding 3ds max and FS.

To get a feel for how 3ds max works you could always install gmax. The wiki has everything you need to get it ready, links instructions + tutorials. Totally free.

Can someone comfirm 3ds max 2010 doesn't work with FSX?

What you have to do is design in Max 2010 and export as a .3ds file straight into Gmax. And then use the tools to make your FSX objects/planes.

It works perfectly well that way.
