• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

3DS Max 3DS Max and MSFS24

Hi everyone hoping I can get some help here. I am dabbling in the MSFS24 tools with 3ds max and have come across and issue that I can not see to fix. Currently testing converting a helicopter model into MSFS24 and testing out the new prop/rotor animation and materials. I had everything exporting through the multiexport just fine until I got a new computer and redownloaded 3DS max 2023. Now when I export into the sim some objects will be offset from their positions and the rotors will be spinning around a weird axis. I have reset the x-forms and the scales and transforms and messed with centering the pivots but then it makes an even bigger mess of the model. I am perplexed with this as I can export into MSFS2020 just fine. I am not sure what has been tweaked with the fresh download of 3ds. Would appreciate if anyone had any ideas.

I share your experience. Exporting to MSFS24 isn't always consistent; some things work differently than in MSFS. Sometimes the behavior is very idiosyncratic.
You've already tried the usual approaches, so there aren't many options left.

The Multi-Exporter offers the option to override transformations, scaling, and rotations:

Then, in the Animation Groups, you have the option to check the box for objects that have keys but are otherwise not animated: "Keep Static Animation".
This is a very important setting in the Character Animation section:

Perhaps this will help you a bit.

Thank you for that reply Christian. I had not noticed those selections at the bottom of the exporter. Ill try messing with those when I get home and report back. Thanks so much.

Another thing that occurs to me is that you could try grouping objects and/or organizing your objects into layers. How do you set up your exports: as a hierarchy export or as a layer export?

Hi Christian I export as a hierarchy export. I tried the selections you suggested and nothing changed. Reading more into it on the SDK I believe the props and rotors using the new animation and textures in MSFS2024 need to be exported on their own and attached via attachments. I guess I'll try that out next. The new folder layout in 24 has my head spinning haha🫨
