• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

_xtomdl_err Any Help?

I am using FSDS and am going to, or at least try, to model my local private airfield. I am, however, running into a problem.
Here are my steps:
1) create a simple box with the origin at the bottom.
2) save the project file.
3) press the button at the top of the screen, the one that looks like a house and says Object File(.bgl)
4) give it a name and set save as to .bgl
5) it says some stuff about generating scenery code and a prompt opens
6) notepad then opens with an error, attached below.
7) closed out that and FSDS says the generation is complete and the number of verticies.

Any Ideas. Seems to be a common problem based on my reading online, but havent been able to find a solution, so i decided to post here. Looks like its on to gmax for a while.

According to that, it says that it created a .mdl not a .bgl, which it called _temp.MDL.

should i change the save as to a MDL?

Please let me know what other info or files you need.

almost forgot, I am using FSDS v 3.5.1, if that matters

Hi,

The _xtomdl_err.txt file is a normal FSDS log file that appears after each compilation. What is written in the file are standard FSDS lines (it is similar when a MDL file is compiled). May be that means that a _temp.MDL is temporarely created just before the BGL...

Where did you take your MDL file? This procedure is supposed to only create a BGL file...

Just be careful when creating a MDL file. In the XML file created simultaniously, the source file indicated is always "_temp.mdl"; you have to change manually the name of the MDL for the one you created before compilation.

FSDS - bgl or mdl

Don't make a bgl file make an mdl file. Then you can place it where you want. You will need a program like Instant Scenery if you don't mind paying for it otherwise use the Object Placement Tool program that comes with the SDK (I have never used this because I have Instant Scenery).

You can make your objects and save as a bgl and place it anywhere you like by simple setting the cords in “Project Properties “ box, this is a faster way to work, if you set the FSDS output folder to an active scenery folder that each time you make a change to your object you simple re-compile as a BGL and start the game to view it.

Once completed then I would make a MDL and install with a program such as Instant scenery although I like ADE and it’s free.
