• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

A new MDL Tweaker II preview

It has been too silent around MDL Tweaker II for a while, so I thought it was time for a little status update and a slight preview of what I have been doing.

As I already reported when that texture error occured some time back, I am working on an improve user interface. It is now nearing the moment that is has enough functionality for another alpha release. So I hope to bring you one somewhere around Christmas.

The three pictures attached to this post show you the new main screen. It does allow you to make basic tweaks and gives you access to other forms with more detail information and not-so-basic tweaks. The idea is that a novice user can do all he wants with those few buttons on the main screen. But the more advanced user will find more power deeper inside the program.

The pictures also show the new preview screen. It is now a separate form, so you can position and resize it like you want. The navigation in the preview is still very basic (panning and rotating with the mouse, zooming in the end with the scrollwheel, but that is not yet implemented). This will probably not be improved before the next alpha release.

The third picture shows the new condition screen. This is where you can set the conditions to apply to your object (or in future versions also part of the object). This form also comes with a sort of online help window that explain more about the tweaks and variables (not visible on the picture yet). I want this conditions form to have the same functionality as the old MDL Tweaker v0.21 before I release the next alpha and I can tell you, it is very close already at the moment.

And just for those who wonder why this new alpha has taken that long :), I have been rather busy to add an OpenFlight exporter to it as well recently. This is not really of much use to most of you, I must admit, but it is something I can use at work. And besides that it was just a nice challenge to export in a different format as well. You can read more about this on my blog.

I'm drooling now.

Looks  Arno, I assume you fixed the problem I was having with the preview window?

I can better get back behind my source code, to add the last functionality...

Dave

Have you been peeking at my photo? ;)

But the answer the question, yes sometimes people joke about it. But not as much as when the hype just started. And luckily the Dutch prime minister looks even more like him :D.

Wow, Arno, this looks absolutely great. :) :)

And luckily the Dutch prime minister looks even more like him.
Does that mean that you look like the Dutch prime minister? :D
When I saw your pic here the first time I was surprised - I always thought of you as a wise old man. :D ;)

Just a little extra teaser of the work I did today. The new alpha version is nearing completion as well. It almost has the same functionality as the origional MDL Tweaker. In these pictures you see the instant help with the variables.

Yes, I had already fixed that problem a while back. But because I had already started on changing the GUI I could not release it back then.

Humm, I guess that as well. Not something I am really proud of :D. But now we are going a bit off topic.

It is usually very surprising indeed to see a picture of someone you only know from forum posts. Usually you make a very different picture of somebody. I guess you will have to do with a sort of wise young man ;).

:santahat: The new version is available in the usual thread. Have fun with it, I am now going back to the family for some Christmas sociability.
