• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Aberrant Node Lines when opening CVX bgl's

Hello all
well this has flummoxed me right from starting use of TSPro. When I open a CVX file I get all these aberrant nodes and lines in the project. Mostly there are only a few in previous projects and I have simply deleted them before exporting but this file is ridiculous and its extremely frustrating..... Any answers??
Cheers
Andrew

Hello:

I have not used TSPro for such processing in quite a long time, as I do my processing in several other FS / GIS utilities.

It is possible Don Grovestine (as author / developer prior to his passing), automatically inserts processing nodes on import.

This assumes we are not discussing loaded TSPro projects with existing processing nodes manually inserted after import:

I would compare these CVX derived nodes / vectors seen in TSPro with de-compilations / imports direct from BGLs.

I would do a separate extract of the CVX data using Patrick Germain's CvxExtractor to output a ESRI SHP file and KML / KMZ.

https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/cvxextractor-exporting-vector-data.432918/

Then I would Append the CvxExtractor output ESRI SHP file to SBuilderX.

I would also open it as an ESRI Shape (*.SHP) File and/or KML / KMZ file in Google Earth Desktop Edition.

BTW: It is not clear if the data files are proprietary from OrbX FTX Global that you are studying.

You may also wish to examine / process the FSX default CVX vector BGL file:

[FSX install path]\Scenery\0602\CVX5517.BGL

As you may know, all CVX vectors have a GUID assigned to them via Terrain.Cfg

If we open a CVX BGL in TMFViewer, Right-Click the poly-line, choose ID vector, then we can correlate the GUID with Terrain.Cfg

We can also look up the GUID here:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/p...msdn.10)?redirectedfrom=MSDN#the-shp2vec-tool

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/microsoft-esp/cc526968(v=msdn.10)

FYI: Some CVX vector BGLs have data points outside a local Geographic area of primary intended content to force display priority.

Hello:

Assuming these are initial de-compilations / imports direct from BGLs, not loaded TSPro projects with extra processing nodes:

G'day Gary, thanks for your help again! This is from a project I am trying to make to relocate a road that crosses the airfield of LFTM. I made the initial changes using TSPro but have had to do it in separate short steps, opening TSPro and closing after each step. The aberrancy became present after the first save and reload of my TSPro project. As I wasnt sure what these were I loaded them into the sim with expected results of roads all over the place. Using the CVXExtractor to SBX procedure you have spoken, can I then manipulate the objectionable road and then export back into FSX as a new CVX file?
Cheers

Yes, indeed.

SBuilderX has a very full-featured SHP file editor compiler, so creating / editing / moving CVX Vector Roads is easily done. :)

BTW: I see LTFM airport does have an English Wikipedia page with decimal coordinates / links for Google Earth etc.:

https://geohack.toolforge.org/geoha..._15_44_N_28_43_40_E_region:TR-34_type:airport

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Istanbul_Airport

PS: To make your local FSX terrain "As Real As It Gets", you can use SBuilder to make sloped LWM-3 flattens for blending etc.

Hi Gary
I have appended the lines as described. These are however simply then shown as non descript lines. I take it that I must then select each of them (there are an awful lot) and allocate the type of road texture to them. Is this correct, or is there a way to append the lines with their properties intact? I take it then it is simply a case of generating the BGL?

Hi again:

I have yet to create a single tutorial on details of using SBuilderX to Append CVX Vectors, but here is a few loose links until then:

During an Append (aka "import"), we pre-select GUID as a SHP file (DBF) record field value to be processed ...to save work.

IIRC, we may be able to see the GUID as a ToolTip pop-up; if not, Right-click to view the CVX object properties

AFAIK, we can at least right-click the Appended CVX object to read what its GUID is "supposed" to be, then assign its type.

Once all CVX vectors have an assigned GUID, we select all (Red Verts./Green Lines), then SBuilderX Menu > File > BGL Compile...

G'day Gary, reading over and over I've made a mistake with the ICAO its actually LTFM Istanbul Intl Airport.

I can follow this fairly well, tho' not sure of the acronym IIRC? Also I read that it is not possible to make multiple selections of lines to allocate the respective GUID before compiling?

Thankyou again

G'day Gary, reading over and over I've made a mistake with the ICAO its actually LTFM Istanbul Intl Airport.

No problem; I edited my post above with some info that may now prove useful to that ICAO:

https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/t...ines-when-opening-cvx-bgls.459985/post-933641

I can follow this fairly well, tho' not sure of the acronym IIRC?

IIRC = If I Recall Correctly (...internet forum abbreviations).

Also I read that it is not possible to make multiple selections of lines to allocate the respective GUID before compiling?

Thank you again

I do not recall any such limitation; I'll need to test that. :scratchch

[EDITED]

OK, that is one of the tricky "mouse-man-ship" aspects of using SBuilderX; one must carefully Right-click the (Green) poly-line portion of the selected object(s) to access the context menu choice for "Properties".

When we select individual- or multiple- objects in SBuilder, the vertices turn Red, and the poly-line turns Green

When we do that properly, "Properties" allows us to Select / Assign the GUID attribute we want for the 'entire' selected group.

PS: I was confused at first when I ID'd the scenery area and files for this airport within the FSX CVX BGL via SDK TMFViewer, as there was no flatten showing for such a large airport.

I also noticed it does not exist in the FSX pick-list (the IATA was transferred, but not the ICAO ...which IIUC is 'new').

So, you have your work cut out for you making a "new" FSX LTFM airport (and sloped flatten, as is significantly sloped). ;)

Surprising how much changed since FSX was last updated by ACES (who themselves are now dispersed out into the wild  ).

Good luck, and let me know if you plan to attempt sloping the airport ...just to spite the AI Traffic addicts. :rotfl:
