Has anybody experimented with "abusing" FSX extrusions to generate for instance overhead wires for railways? Could it work in theory? Or would it be impossible to get proper looking overhead wires using extrusions? To be true to prototype, both the zigzagging from side to side between poles, and the catenary "wavy" form of the upper wire and the constant height of the actual overhead wire should be modelled...
Or is it best to just simply place each pole and overhead wire section between a pair of poles as separate objects... and place them appropriately (programmatically, obviously). Modelling the overhead section as a single rectangle with a texture where only the actual wires have non-zero alpha should work, yes?
IMHO having overhead wiring visible would greatly enhance how truthful railways look in the sim... but then I am a railway enthusiast even more than I am a flightsim enthusiast
