• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Acron 3D Builder Standard Edition

I've just noticed that Acron are about to release a Standard version of their 3D Builder program for $49.

The professional edition is pretty good and imports and exports a whole host of formats and includes integrated FSX export, but I'd not realised they're about to do a cheap version.

Could this be the GMax replacement everyone's waiting for? They're an MS ESP partner so I would expect compatibility and capability is likely to be high. Has anyone got any amount of experience with it? If so, what's it like?

I have only had a brief experience with the beta version of their "Professional" version. I never managed to get it working here at all. Apparently at the time it only had support for OpenGL rendering, and all I got was "plaid textures" on the mesh...

...more disturbing to me was the absolute lack of response (and I mean totally zero!) from the person in charge of the "beta testing" to any of my questions.

Keep in mind that I was asked to join the testing, it is not something I requested, which makes it all the more puzzling!

There support forums are pretty empty, so it doesn't look like there's a great many people using it yet. But if they have MS's support, with a view to it replacing GMax, then hopefully it can develop quickly into something decent.

I downloaded a demo version of the Professional edition to try converting from OpenFlight to Mdl but didn't have a lot of success. I didn't persevere long at it though, to be honest. Most of the freebie OpenFlight models I tried it with wouldn't load.

It would be nice if they offered tutorial siminars and or movies of tutorials.

Thanks for the heads up on this software.

Like Bills experience with their modelling software during beta testing i was wholly disappointed with the program.
There are a number of features that differentiate this software from any i had used before, nomenclature of tools and processes was unlike any other modelling program , as well the modelling process itself was primarily done with poly extrusion , also a factor ( at the time ) was a texture limit of 8 sheets.
The program had issues importing some formats such as .3DS
(at the time)and as an export tool using XToModel it was capable of exporting to FSX , but as a means of bouncing formats it is far outshined by blender , as regards toolsets and ease of use it could not hold a candle to Gxax or FSDS,
and as a tool for professionals it will not eclipse 3DS in any department except price .
