• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

Add light to GMAX object...again :-)

Hello,

can anyone send step-by-step description how to add a light (nav light) to gmax object ? A two years ago (for FS2002) I created material NAV_LIGHT, but - as you know - this doesn't work in FS2004. I know that I have to link some effect with the object, but I don't know how to do it... I tried to find some tutorial, but nothing I find yet...

Thans a lot.

Milan

Thanks a lot for reply....but (Murphy's Law :rotfl: ) I found GMax SDK a 5 minutes after I sent this topic... I will try to link an effects to my objects this evening...

:mad: Whole evening I spent with GMax SDK and Attach Tool tutorial..
First of all (for how it works) I compiled effecthouse.gmax from SDK into mdl and use bglcomp.exe I placed it into scenery. The house looks great, but there is no smoke. Of course fx_ChimneySmoke.fx I placed into effect folder in FS9.
Then I tried to attached an effects from effect folder to my objects, but nothing happens.. I did it precisely according to tutorial.. Effects are not visible.. :banghead:
Has anybody an idea what I can do wrong ? It is necessary to modify plugin.ini or(and) gmax.ini ? How ? :scratchch

Thanks milan

try this.........

In Gmax, create 2 spheres...nothing huge, just so you can see them in the scenery next to each other

Pick one sphere, use attachtool and add fx_strobe and name it strobe.

Export the scenery, compile it, and run fs9.

You should see one sphere, and instead of seeing the other sphere, should see a white flashing light

If you see it..then all is working fine.let me know how it goes and will help further if needed

First sphere is visible (without attached effect), the second not and there is no strobe...

thats wierd. The way i attach effects is like this...maybe your way is different..is so try this...

create 2 spheres
click MAXSCRIPT on top
click run script
click attachtoolgmax.ms
then you need to browse for your scenery folder..once found,open it
then you will see attach type with several option underneath click effect

export your file
compile the xml file in bglc
load fs9

the only file thats needed to run attachtool is the attachtool script which should be located in gmax/2004gamepack/script. If this method is different from yours..try this, if its the same way then let me know and we'll try something different.

Hi

Don't now if this makes any difference, but I have no problems with attachtool. What I can se from whats been descibed and refering to my own tests so can I only see one difference.
I have put an constriction on my effect, when running AttachToolGmax there is a space called "Effects Params" and in this have I put the constriction DAY=1
This makes the effect being visible during FS daytime, this can then be expanded to hold the parameter DUSK, NIGHT and DAWN.

Make a test and see if it's works.

Regards

Gerth

Hi,

Ablitos : I created the effect accurately as you write in your description (btw the Attach Tool tutorial give the same description)

Voyager30 : I will test it but I think that this isn't the problem I'm looking for... When params aren't set, the effect should works everytime (all day, night, dawn, dusk and all year's seasons)...

Thanks.

Milan

Could it be that this is the exclude problem again? Attached effects are excluded by excludes that are active. So in that case you don't need to use one big exclude, but make a lot of smaller ones around the objects you want to remove.

Hi Arno,

hmmm :scratchch at the place where the test truck stands is exclude bgl generated by AirportForWindows... Do you think that here is the problem ?

Milan

Could be, just do a test without the exclude, then you can be sure if the attaching went OK or not.

Wow ! I removed exclude bgl from the scenery and effects work fine ! Thanks a lot Arno.

I created the airport in 2002 in Airport For Windows (AFW) 2.6, including exclude bgl. This time I update the scenery for FS9. But now I use AFW 3.0 and when I compile the scenery I get error message that exclude bgl can't be compiled. I never uncovered why not. So I use the old eclude bgl (from AFW 2.6)...

This evening I will try to compile exclude bgl from AFW 3.0 - I will create new area only for exclude compile. I hope that effects will work under this new eclude bgl.

Anyway - is any other way how to create exclude bgl for airport area ? I haven't got SDK here - is possibility to create exclude via XML and BGLCOMP ? Have anybody got xml source for create exclude ?

Thank you very much

Milan

Hi Milan,

Yes, you can also make an exclude with XML commands, just have a look at the BGLComp SDK, it is very easy.

But if you make that exclude the same size as your previous one the attached object will still be gone. The only way to make attached objects work is to have no exlcude at their location. So probably you need to make a collection of smaller excludes, only around the objects you want to remove.

Surface Exclude ?

Hi to all again,

sorry but I have another problem... :confused:
I tried to exclude airport area...

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<FSData
version = "9.0"
xmlns:xsi='http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance'
xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="bglcomp.xsd" >
<ExclusionRectangle
latitudeMinimum = "N50 11.3298"
latitudeMaximum = "N50 12.80087"
longitudeMinimum = "E012 53.81363"
longitudeMaximum = "E012 56.58322"
excludeBeaconObjects = "TRUE"
excludeGenericBuildingObjects = "TRUE"
excludeLibraryObjects = "TRUE"
excludeTaxiwaySignObjects = "TRUE"
excludeTriggerObjects = "TRUE"
excludeWindsockObjects = "TRUE"
/>
</FSData>

OK effects work, all objects are dissapeared... but not default surface (runways, taxiways, appron...)

Hmmm...so I add to xml code

<Airport
region="Europe"
country="Czech Republic"
city="Karlovy Vary"
name="Karlovy Vary"
lat="N50 12.1833'"
lon="E12 54.9000'"
alt="1989.0"
magvar="1.0"
ident="LKKV">

<DeleteAirport
deleteAllApproaches = "TRUE"
deleteAllApronLights = "TRUE"
deleteAllAprons = "TRUE"
deleteAllHelipads = "TRUE"
deleteAllRunways = "TRUE"
deleteAllStarts = "TRUE"
deleteAllTaxiways = "TRUE"/>
</Airport>

Default surface is dissapeared... And I have this questinos :

AFD Data are deleted ?
Why I can NOT tune any airport frequency ? I have not parameter "deleteAllFrequencies" in the code...
How can I make new AFD data (by Lee Swordy AFCAD) so as not to be visible surface ?

Thank you. Milan
