• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Adding Lights to Scenery objects

Hi all,
I am trying to recreate a Naval Field Landing area. It looks much like the markings on an Aircraft Carrier, but it is on Naval stations runways for practice. I have been trying to add the lights that define the zone using FSDSV3, but to no avail. does anybody know how to do this?? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Is this for FSX? What design program are you using? FSDS v3.5.1?If so I mihgt be able to help. If youi use Gmax, Arno or others might be able to help. Bob

Field Carrier Landing Practice (FCLP) markings (for FS9) can be found at flightsim dot com. If you need a set for FSX, email me and I can help. I made my first set using FSDS by just making the right shapes out of planes and setting it up to be semi-transparent and placing it with EZ Scenery .01 meter above the runway.

Jim- Seems we have a mutual friend in Bill MacKay!

Two items here.

A. looking for a ground light effect... light that is cast on the ground from a lamp. i.e. attachpoint.

B. cone dhaped lihgt as if coming from a lamp.... effect

From here I imagine I can copy one of my partsdatadef and change the name to match the effect and also make a new partsName to point to the datadef so I can make an attach point in FSDS and get this effect if I want to make a lamp shining on the ground.

You might notice at Avism and/or flightsim a scenery I made long ago with rwy and txiwy lights. Two styles, one set appears at night, the other appears with a radio freq you set on your radio.

These worked great, but they are very dim, hard to see a few miles out. Wondering if you have any ideas on how to make these much brighter. I did it in FSDS 3 but I have since lost the fsc file, unless I have it on disk somewhere. Opa Marshall gave me the idea many moons ago. Bob

jyarddog and Otter515:

You may also add runway lighting through effects using one of the beacons, but a while ago I made a single runway light mdl with BGLC, (thanks Dick!) and have populated a Library .bgl with this model. It retains all the characteristics of a runway light including being able to see it from a distance.

In FSX it looks a bit larger than the normal runway light and a bit smaller than the white PAPI lights. its color is about the same as the PAPI lights. It's on at dusk, off after dawn.

Attached below is the original .mdl, the library .bgl, and the bgl.txt file.

I've tried getting it to attach to an attachment point in gmax and have been unsuccessful. If you folks find out how for either FSDS or GMAX, please let everyone know.

Thanks,

Jim

Jim- Thanks muchly. You might be on to something. If this could be turned into an fx file for effects maybe someone could write a partsdatadef which would point to it; then a patrsNames pointing to the datadef thing. We then could attach it to an object.

My rwytsilights would be brighter farther away if I could redo the the project. Having lost my FSDS project on it I'd be starting from page one again.

This light of yours should come in handy, maybe different colors too.

Ah... so much to learn, huh!! Bob
