• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

We are getting close to our next major release - V1.5 - for ADE. Version 1.49.08 is the latest public beta and we hope close to a release candidate. If you would like to download and try this version then you can get it here:

http://www.scruffyduck.org.uk/files/ade_149_08_full.zip.

Note that this IS a BETA. Please read the installation instructions careful and do NOT install it over any existing version. There are instructions how to copy your existing settings and so on to this version. Please also be aware that it will use the same Most Recent File list as your current version. Do not just start work in this version on one of your pet projects from that list. Please make a copy of any project you want to try in this beta with a different name and use that.

All feedback is much appreciated. This is a significant update for us and we are sure that there will be things wrong...

Cloudy, rainy and cool weather over here. Best time to download the new Beta, I thought.
Must be bad weather in more places because the download speed is 5.97 Kb/s.
Will have to wait for another hour at the least to install it.
Oh well, the lawn is mown, dinner is not ready yet, wife complains about my spending too much time at the computer, dogs are eating and will go to sleep soon and I am going to have a dry sherry and wait for the download to complete.
Sounds more or less familiar?
Thanks, Jon, and looking forward to find out what the new beta is like.

Sounds familiar :) I have just been sorting out the animals. We have a foal in one of our fields at the moment and he is a rascal - keeps kicking over the water and trying to chew through the gate!. If that does not get attention then he likes to grap a mouthful of shirt and pull. He is driving his mother mad also....... We will have trouble with the chickens tonight I am sure - they have taken to sleeping in the day and hurtling around when they should be back in the coop.

Getting 200kbs here..

I hope the beta works as well as we would like!

Jon

I'm not seeing thumbs for generic buildings as I scroll over them. No thumb in the list view, also. Library objects are OK. Not a big deal, just different from other veersions.

They should be there. Works here. Please check that the folder called Generic Buildings in FS9 or FSX contains stuff....

Two things I noticed while fiddling with the beta here. One, when making a change to information/data for a background image, upon clicking OK, the program crashes to desktop. Second, after placing an effect and the saving the airport, the effect disappears when the airport is re-opened.

Looking really good so far! I'm liking some of this new functionality :)

Thanks for the feedback. Can you find the file called Log.tx1 that will be in the version folder you are working with inside the ADE folder and send it to me - jon AT scruffyduck.co.uk so that I can check this CTD etc.

EDIT
At the moment I cannot replicate either of these here

Well, when I open my airport (this is an addon) in 1.47, I can scroll over generic buildings and see a thumb. In 1.48.08, I can't see a thumb. Strange, because the generic buildings folder has stuff in it. Even more strange, The generic buuildings folder in the new versoin is about twice as big as in the older versoin.
At a stock airport I see thumbs for some generic buildings in the new version.

I'll do some more testing.

Something else. For FSX, the file for generic buildings seems to be very different between 1.47 and 1.48.08. In ADE a different group of buildings comes up when I try to add a generic building in one version as opposed to the other (does that make sence?).

Bob

Possibly. I would suggest copying the GenericBuildings Folder from 1.47 over to 1.49

EDIT - do you have some of your own generic buildings or ones that you saved in 1.47?

I also see that the Generic Buildings in the lastest beta of FSX (149.08) are not what is in 147.16.

If I look all the way back to version 1.45.00 the generic buildings in both FS9 and FSX are Identical. I did not know that FS9 and FSX has the exact same Generic Buildings

In version 147.16 the generic buildings in both FS9 and FSX are Identical.

Starting with beta 149.04 the FSX generic buildings do not look like the correct ones. This continues up to beta 149.08

OK I will check that for the next build - in the meantime Generic Buildings are files and thumbnails. You may copy them from one installation to another. Do not use FSX generic building files in FS9. They are forward compatible but not backward compatible.
