• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 Adjusting Airport Lighting

Hello,
I'm currently trying to adjust the viewing distance of the airport rotating beacon lights in 2020.
The current state is that the beacon lights get drawn in way too late (approx. 5nm) when first approaching an airport.
After it's drawn, it stays visible for far longer (didn't measure the exact distance, but it's much more realistic than the initial 5nm).
Until now, I didn't succeed in modifying the draw distance/visibility.
Is there anyone in here who got some experience messing with this stuff.
There are several beacon.fx files within the X:\Users\xxx\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\Official\OneStore\fs-base-effects\effects directory, but I haven't managed to get results that are in any way better.
Partly, I'm not even sure if those are the right files to edit and partly I don't understand a lot of parameters found within the .fx files.
I've made some forum posts on other forums already, but until now, nobody seems to be able to help me.
It would already be useful to find the MALSR/MALSF files, since those are visible from a much further distance and to see what differences there exist in the files. However, I wasn't able to find those either.
Hope somebody can help me with that!
 
Are effects attachable to and object? I didn't find it on the SDK.

As for my limited experience with the SDK, they seem to be "attachable" to everything. You can chose to place effects in the object tool within the developer mode. Whether they actually work I haven't tested yet. I can vaguely remember to have read somewhere, that the effects currently available through the SDK are not working. Not sure about this though.
