• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I am duplicating a new post in the AFLT forum in the hopes of increased exposure.

I have just posted AFLT Development Release 4.5.0.1. This new release allow you to place multi-beam ground-illuminating models and to fully customize the illumination. Unlike the traditional practice of displaying ground illumination as one or more slightly-elevated planes, AFLT uses ground polys - the same technolopgy as in ADE-GP. Consequently, overlapping illumination planes do not cause flickering and very realistic illumination arrangements can be created.

If you wish to give it a try and are already using AFLT4, I suggest you make a copy of your AFLT folder and install 4.5.0.1 in the copy. That way, all your existing AFLT projects remain available (but the original copy in your existing AFLT folder will not be updated). If you are not a current AFLT user, you will, unfortunately, have a somewhat steeper learning curve.

AFLT 4.5.0.1 includes a variety of 3D models with ground-illuminating capabilities: 6 for ramp lighting, 4 for vehicle parking lots, 2 for sidewalk application and 1 for street lighting. Like all the other 3D models in AFLT, these can be supplemented with your own simply by adding a line to a text file. Most models have multiple "heads" to which can be attached a custom light beam. These are all models I use in my own airports.

Detailed instructions for use are on Pages 28-30 of the updated user manual. As noted in the manual, a couple planned features have not yet been implemented; specifically, the ability to reduce or increase the height of the 3D models and to change the color of the illumination. I categorize these features as nice to have but not essential to the evaluation of the development release.

Certain aspects on the program may still be a bit "tender", so please be tolerant of unexpected results.

Please give it a try.
