• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi Arno!

I try to use the agn2txt feature, but whatever agn I try to open nothing happens. I tried to use the command line, batch file, there is no error message.

Thanks!

Hi,

Are they fsx agn files? Fs2004 ones are not supported at the moment.

Normally the tool is used from the command prompt like this:

agn2txt 123456789.agn > mytext.txt

Hi Arno!

Thanks for reply! THe mistake was that we wanted to compile fs9 agn and also from the command option I did not put the ">" character.

I should check how easy it would be to also read and write FS2004 AGN files. That would be a good addition to the tool.

Hi Arno!

That would be highly appreciated!

We are just started to try the autogen. Basically we want to add custom autogen on photobackground. We are using autogen annotator.

Hi Arno!

I forgot to write why exactly we need the txt file for FS9. We want to place custom autogen objects on photo background. The issue is we want to develop for FS9 and FSX.

Unfortunately the Annotator is not able to convert fs9 to fsx. I believe it is because of the different GUID's used by the two versions. Or custom library pack would contain hundreds of objects but they exist for FS9 and FSX. We have an excel sheet which tells which fs9 GUID is equal to FSX GUID, it is like a dictionary. The idea is to open the FSX autogen file to txt, in the file re-place the guids to fs9 guid's and then compile the file with fs9 txt2agn. I know this is not so easy because maybe the fs9 agn has completely different format.

So that is the reason I would be happy for an FS9 txt2agn and agn2txt.

Thanks!

Hi,

Ok. But be aware that the guid in the agn file is not the object guid. It's the guid of the autogen class in must cases.

The GUID in FS9 autogen is used only for library objects:

No of GUIDs 1
GUID 7DCF4659 3FA94230 941A6FF7 EB248D5B
No of objects 2

But is it not the guid from the autogen.xml file where you define the class? It's some time ago I looked at it in fs2004, so I might remember wrong.
