• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

AI ship traffic BGL

Hi,

I am creating AI ships for FSX. I use AIBTC02 to add my ships courses into trafficBoats.bgl FSX default file, which contains all AI boat courses. Thats works fine. But when a attemp to create my own traffic BGL file (ex : trafficShips.BGL), I dont see my ship.

Question : can I create other BGL boats traffic file than the default FSX one to put third party ships?

Thanks.

Merci Alain, mais j'ai tout vérifié :
- I have FSX SP1,
- so I dont have Acceleration,
- I dont have any traffic addon.
- All adds work fine when added in the FSX default traffic files (I have to conclude that there is no bug in boats, plans and routes files nor in the model).
- But nothing works in new traffic files.

I can live with adds in the default files, but I prefer to put them in separate BGL file witch can be deleted by the user without affecting default file.

Jean-Pierre,

Where did you place your traffic bgls? I have created many using AIBTC and when placed in \Scenery\World\Scenery they all show correctly.

Try creating a single route with a single ship out and back. Does this work correctly?

Hi GHD,

I first place my BGl in default folder, \Scenery\World\Scenery. After I placed it in \Addon scenery\scenery and after \Addon scenery\AI\scenery. Same result : nothing.

I will try (again) your suggestion.

But you (and Alain) answered a part of my interrogation. Acccording to you, it is possible to create our own traffic files and place them in the default FSX folder (\Scenery\World\Scenery) without conflict with the default boats traffic file trafficBoats.bgl. Right?

Hi,

I made a lot of boat traffic using:
Ttools for the flightplans;
ADE for the so called airports;
and lots of AI ships found on FS-shipyards.org.
I put - the ADE waterports in the Addon scenery/scenery
folder;
- the AI ships in the simobjects/airplanes folder;
- I converted the TTools flightplans to FSX using AIFP.
I do not have a problem with them whatsoever.
I would not ever put them in the default ships_traffic.bgl as that one is made differently. I am not sure, though, if it makes a difference, as I have not tried it.
Bonne chance.

Roby

Absolutely.

robystar,

You are not creating boat traffic, you are creating AI "aircraft" which is something quite different.

Yes it is possible but I don't know with SP1 as I only work with SP2-DX9
Actually I didn't check FS original traffic still remains but my new one does.

I remake a third party boat traffic BGL with one plan and it works!

In my previous tests, I use the next number of AI boats default list, AC#18, because tutorial tell us to "use a specific number to each ship".

But I think it is more precise to said "in a same BGL, thus in the same decompile files (boats*.txt and plans*.txt), use a specific number to each ship, beginning by 1". Is'n it?

Thanks for your support!

Hi!

I just stumbled over this thread and have 2 questions:

Does the BTC also work on 64 bit Vista?
Do I really have to install Java 5.0?

I have Java 6.0 (for 64 bit OS) installed.

Background: After flying over the North Sea I wanted to brush up the AI ships traffic a little. Funny enough, all the traffic runs on one(!) single 'lane', so that the ships almost sail into each other.

To avoid that one of two opposing ships circumnavigates the other doing 4 steep 90° turns within a very close distance (very realistic).

Maybe it is interesting for you, or - just to keep you posted:

Yes, BTC works on 64 bit Vista. But it does not run with Java for 64 bit OS.

I installed Java 6 for 32 bit OS instead now.

(I parked my Cessna on the CV to follow this funny procedure!)
.

As a first step I extracted 3 files with BTC
- BoatsBoats.txt
- PlansBoats.txt
- RoutesBoats.kml

everything fine.

I can clearly spot the shipping route in GoogleEarth where I watched what I' ve mentioned above.

However I am still dealing with one obstruction:

So far I didn' t manage to identify the corresponding shipping route in the kml-file.

Is there anybody who can help me with this issue? Thank you very much in advance!

Open your kml file in Wordpad and you should see the route in the <name> </name> section.

Hi George!

As I said, 'So far I didn' t manage to identify the corresponding shipping route in the kml-file' (and to try that I opened it with WordPad naturally).

The very first shipping route within that file is called <name>400</name> which is not very helpful. The following data are coordinates. Generally it will be possible by checking these coordinates, yes - but there are countless of them. There are hundreds of shipping routes in that file and hundreds of coordinates are attached to each shipping route.

It would take me days to go through that pile of data.

No - I was looking for some kind of 'trick' or something which I might not be aware of yet. A trick which could help me identify it 'with one click'.

In GoogleEarth the shipping routes aren' t flagged. That would probably be the easiest way to identify such a route.

Anyway, thank you, George

OK, open the kml in Google Earth, edit each route and give it a name and save the routes as new kmls.

George

You can make your own traffic BGL(s). Create your own files (ex : myBoats.txt, myPlans.txt and myRoutes.kml) and compile them in a separate file (ex : myTraffic.bgl). More simple to manage.
