• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA AI Traffic Problem

Hi all,

I'm just starting to use AIFP [superb software by the way...] and I've hit a problem. When the AI aircraft departs my favourite location in FSX - Sion LSGS using Rwy 25, it makes a turn straight into the mountainside.

I've had minimal success by sending the plane way off course to EDMO near Munich [she only just clears the mountains rouns Sion] - see my post HERE.

Does anyone know of a workaround that will make the aircraft clear the mountains, then route onward to it's destination?

I'm using the FS9 VC-10 'AI Multiplayer' VC-10 made by David Maltby.
You can download the model here:- http://www.simviation.com/hjg/DMFS/VC10_AI.zip

Hi,
I think there is no solution to your problem. Ai traffic follows just point to point route and within the mountains the aircraft just disappears some times. I had this problem as well with a AI flight from EDDM to LOWI. It seems to be the way AI traffic works in FS. A bug !!??

Hi Dietmar,

I think you're correct. Even the default AI aircraft depart straight into the mountainside! I thought perhaps there was some way to 'fool' the AI engine - perhaps by adding a waypoint or fake airport that could be included in the flightplan.

Thanks for the reply ;)

The person to ask about that would be Jim Vile. He designed the "Active Approach" AFCADs for FS9 for a lot of airports in difficult terrain, like LOWI.

So it might be better to ask this question in a new thread titled something like "Approaches in mountaineous terrain" in the ADE subforum. The guys there know a ton about AFX/ADFCAD files.

The problem here is departure, not approach.

Bob

Thanks for the information Heretic, but Bob's correct - the approach track into LSGS is just fine [although Khe Sanh style]. It's the departure that FSX has a problem with.

I've managed to get AI aircraft to depart from Sion [LSGS] successfully, but only via EDMO [Munich] - apparently because it's fairly well aligned with the departure track. This is a crazy solution for me, because it's 200Nm in the opposite direction I want the AI to go!

Any solutions out there?

Thanks, Dave.
