• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

AI Traffic?

Not clear about your question - is it that you are not sure how to go about creating AI traffic or that you have AI traffic but are not sure how to make them appear at your airport ?

Also, is your airport an entirely new airport - i.e. fictional - or a genuine existing airport ?

The answer to either possibility is quite different, so a little clarification would help us to help you...

You can follow similar threads at the bottom of this page. Basicly you can try AI Flightplanner(info on this website), and write flight plans for your airport. Thats about it.

Basically you copy the existing traffic.bgl to a safe place and another to the desktop. If its the FS9 type traffic.bgl you use TTools. The only difference between the two is the FS9 format fails to show some ships and ferries, later JustFlight corrected this with the traffic SP1. If traffic has been patched with the Traffic SP1 from JustFlight then the traffic.bgl will be in the FSX format. Either way Ai Flight Plan Compiler (AIFPC) will work on both FS9 and FSX format. You decompile the traffic.bgl into the following three individual files;

airports
aircraft
flightplans

You add the airport code and coordinates to the airports file in the same manner as the rest. Likewise add from/to routes for your airport and aircraft choices to the flightplans. You can choose aircraft by looking through the aircraft file in notepad and noting the aircraft numbers you wish to use.

I would be sorely tempted to make these mini versions of the full traffic.bgl with just your airport in, your aircraft and the flightplans you need. Then recompile and put the resulting traffic.bgl in the add ons folder with your airport. Assuming your add on airport is EGXX then rename the traffic file in the add ons folder as EGXX_traffic.bgl

If you muck up then just replace with the copied one you kept safe. This should roughly get you in the ball park ;)

Reider,

A question, if I may. Am I wrong to suggest to a newbee one program that will write and compile FS9 and FSX flightplans? I know you have far more experience than I, thats why I ask. I have used ttools in the past, with no problems. But for FSX it seems like an extra step. For many of us, the extra steps can be done quickly, but someone new... Anyway, pay no attention to someone like me who, basically, can't spell. Thanks for your help.

OK, JustFlights product was originally Traffic2004, then it was upgraded to Traffic2005, finally made into Traffic (FSX compatible). The traffic.bgl was originally in the FS9 format but due to complaints about the missing ships/ferries it was patched with a Traffic SP1 that amongst other things made the traffic.bgl FSX compatible. The ships/ferries then returned.

Right, thats the history. Traffic shipped with a few programs including a GUI that automatically made certain changes to the flightplans. Unfortunately when the button marked 'compile from all sources' was hit it defaulted quickly back to what it was before the changes-because it was made up of the original source files.

Then we started doing things manually and avoiding the GUI program which many could not use in Vista anyway. TTools was used for FS9 (see above) and later AIFPC was utilised for both FS9 and FSX type files. It doesn`t matter which way is used as long as all the options are available and the reasons for having to do them are known. Another problem which is not always fixed by other programs in Traffic is TnG traffic and Helicopters. These have been a big problem in Traffic with TnG (Touch and Go) in particular getting priority to land before all other aircraft. In doing so they were badly programmed and though getting close to the runway never landed at all, then went around and repeated-stopping people from landing at certain airports/airfields. Helicopters had their own heli airports appended to the main airports and these were a similar problem to the TNG aircraft but zig zagging very very slowly to land and holding up other aircraft.

With all the individual problems it was found the manual approach to tackling them was best and many removed the aircraft causing the troubles. Even renaming them from TnG to anything else meant the same problematic flying for TnG. This was covered in the JF forums to keep people abreast of the problems and how to tackle them. Some made the changes and offered the flightplans for download. Its all about choices and at the end of the day the end user will decide which approach to take in fixing the problem.

*** Reply was delayed due to my computer upgrade, put a 2 gig dual core chip in and overclocked to 3 gig on a new motherboard. ;) ***
