• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

AIFP 2.2.03 - cannot expand aircraft folder

Hi Don,

my AI aircraft are stored in the Simobjects\AIAircraft path. Unfortunately, since 2.2 has been released I cannot expand that path using the "Select Aircraft Folder" control. See attached picture.
If I use AIFP 2.1.30, expansion is still functional. I suspect a regression somewhere.

Kind regards

Hi Don;

I have tried development release, expansion is fine; but using the assign/download/substitute control I get many exceptions when installing aircraft. It causes the Unpacking Repaints progress bar to hang until aborted - maybe you are probably already aware of this issue since its a dev release though...
I have tracked the behavior more precisely - if I click on the Download button, then my browser Chrome opens; when download complete if I switch back to AIFP while single clicking inside the box on an aircraft title, it causes the strange behavior. If I do click outside the text area (grey frame) its perfectly fine.

Kind regards
tanj

Tanj, neither Chrome - nor any other browser - is involved in the download process. All the download code is contained within AIFP. No one else is reporting such an issue. If Chrome is being activated, then it's due to some setup configuration in your system outside AIFP.

That being said, there should be no exceptions in AIFP, regardless of circumstances. An exception means that something that AIFP isn't expecting has happened - which certainly seems to be the case here. Please send me a screenshot of the exception message showing the details, or copy the exception message.

Hi Don,

I am not sure. AIFP has always worked this way for me on all computers (I have 2 different FS installation, one being on a fresh Windows 7 ultimate OS). Maybe the function that you are calling expects to find IE9 as a default browser. If it finds Chrome, a new tab will be used for download. Please try to check this behavior with Chrome installed as the default browser.
I'll send you any exceptions I will met next time I'll install flightplans.

Kind regards

Hi Don,

I reproduced the behavior with IE9. it opens a download window, for example on avsim. Sorry I didnt detail my example enough but it's while using the download repaints function with the Alpha India Group flight plans. I supposed that's the default behaviour.

Here's the exception I get if I click on the aircraft list instead of the grey border to get focus back on AIFP. I took a screenshot so the whole workflow will have more sense. Let me know if you need the full exception output (though you should be able to reproduce the case easily).

tanj, as i said earlier, AIFP doesn't call any browser. It simply presents Windows with the URL it wants to download and Windows does the rest. It doesn't even monitor when the download is complete.

As for the exception, it will be fixed in the next development release. The screenshot you provided (thanks) should give me all the info I need.

Don

Yes, I understand perfectly. I just pointed out the fact that the exception appeared because the focus was switched out of AIFP. Thanks for fixing the exception, I will stay tuned to the next dev release.

tanj, I am unable to duplicate the issue. From an examination of the code, the only opportunity for an exception I can see would be if the aifp.cfg file has the incorrect number of fields in the [Repaints] block. Previously, AIFP didn't confirm the correct number of fileds; it does now.

Please identify the flight plan package you were installing at the time and send me a link.

Don

I spoke too soon. AIFP does check that the correct number of fields exist. So that's not the issue.

Which version of AIFP are you using. In addition to sending me a link to the file you were installing, please provide detailed instructions about how to force the error. I've clicked all over the place without difficulty, and I don't recall anyone else reporting such an issue. So, it's not a simple thing.

Hi Don,

using latest dev release (j)

http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=174875
I have some hard time reproducing the exception again. Basically, it happens I click download, when the browser opens (takes focus), waits for download to complete then when I click again on the aircraft list, it has sometimes effect of starting another download again.
I suppose it's maybe not worth spending time on this issue, it may be relevant to my system or to my actions.

Thanks for your great support as always,
Best

When you first clicked download, did you have more than one aircraft selected?
